So when I submitted my application, I accidentally put down the CAS as my primary school and the ILR as my alternate when I meant to put it the other way around. The problem is that the CAS needs two subject tests that I haven’t taken while the ILR does not.
I was sent an email from the Undergraduate Admissions committee asking for the subject tests and I replied I didn’t have them because the ILR school doesn’t require them. They then informed me that I actually applied for the CAS: cue panic. They’ve said that, “requests to change colleges or schools will not be honored. If * have not taken the required subject tests, [my] application will be reviewed without them, and a decision will be based on the information available to the selection committee.” Yikes.
Will my application “fail” any kind of review that the CAS selection committee and just be sent to the ILR with a bad review or worse- not even at all? I’m so stressed out and upset right now that I could have made such a silly mistake.
Whoops, using the brackets with I inside to change the pronoun used there seemed to make the format of the post think it meant italics; my bad.
Even if you wanted CAS as an alternate, you still had to do the Subject Tests…
@Jamesjunkers Yeah, I know. I just kind of put it down as a “How could it hurt?” kind of deal
What do you mean how could it hurt? Why would you apply to the school, and write the essay, without fulfilling the requirements?
Your best bet is to call up, and ask them to disregard your application to CAS. No one here knows if it’ll work.
@jamesjunkers it like if somebody with a 1700 SAT applies to Yale for the hell of it, except OP has a 35 ACT score…
@StressyMessi nah bro its fine, its out of your control now so just chilllllll
@thrgrant, it’s not the same at all. That person with the 1700 still has a chance albeit slim. OP applied without fulfilling the requirements, Yale doesn’t have an SAT minimum.
@jamesjunkers nahhhhh theyr just gonna review his application without the subject tests
@StressyMessi bro u got a 35 act, I dont want to sugar coat this, but you prob still got a great shot at it (anyway if ILR is ur alternate and they notice that ur better off there, then I dont see how this would be too big of an issue)
+1
Is “great” overstating it? Top schools have no shortage of 35s who have actually done the required testing…
Yikes, I don’t want to be alarmist, but this doesn’t sound too good. I agree with talking to the admissions committee and asking them to solely consider you for ILR because if I remember correctly, only 1-2% of applications ever make it to the alternate stage (the primary choice college has to reject an applicant, but still deem them “good enough” to forward to another).
@thegrant - I want to have what you’re having because that isn’t true at all. It would be one thing if he had a couple of low subject test scores, but he doesn’t have them at all, and for CAS they’re required.
I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion, and you can definitely try to fix this. Good luck!
@JamesJunkers I love writing so thinking that the only other thing that I’d have to do for the CAS was another essay seemed like short work for me. I’m truly apologetic (none of that internet passive-aggressiveness here, haha) if I came across as brash or rude to you (or other applicants) with how I got into my predicament or my reply to you.
@Thegrant Yeah, stressing won’t do anything to help me. Thanks so much for your reassurance though!
@Bodangles Completely understood- in reality, in my haste, I thought that just putting down the two schools would simply have my application sent to both and then have the primary accept me if I passed their requirements and if not, see if the alternate did (in simpler terms, applying to two schools and just having a preference).
@Coriander23 I emailed them and they said that reconsideration for schools was out of the question; hopefully I can call in with a phone and see if I can just be judged for the ILR.
Thanks everyone for your replies!
No need to apologize, you weren’t rude, I was just sharing my opinion, my condolences go out if I came off as rude
