so since this is the biggest news that were gonna receive in our yougn lives i was just wondering how u guys were gonna embrace the electronic message that youll receive on the 15th or 12th.

My plan is to close my eyes and blast a song such as Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” or a Christian song.

Then I was planning to cover the first paragraph or so and work my way up the letter. Im not very good with direct answers such as a “CONGRATS!” or a “YOU SUCK” so i wanna kinda figure it out from the body of the letter with words liek “Stanford has recognized excellence since 1891…”

Idk…just trying to kill some time here…do you have any interesting ideas to dramatize the moment?

why? why?
just get it, recieve it and move on
congrats yay, or sob sob
it doesnt matter, why do you want this moment to be dramatizing
life isnt one acceptance or rejection letter you know

I remember reading somewhere that Stanford doesn’t decline people who apply Early Action, that they only accept or defer applicants. Anyone know if this is true?

pose716, I think that it may be evident even in the latter part of the letter whether you’re in or not. I would just open it or have a trusted friend/family member do it if you are unable to. I’m not going to drag it out.

“I remember reading somewhere that Stanford doesn’t decline people who apply Early Action, that they only accept or defer applicants. Anyone know if this is true?”

NOT TRUE. They do NOT like to defer. Thus about 10% of the Early pool is deferred; the rest are given a decision.

The acceptance rate for the deferred applicants is the same as the overall admit rate for the RD pool.

Since I took the SAT in December and most likely got a 2200+ as opposed to my current 2090, and I get rejected, could I detest the decision and fight for a deferral?

I’m sure you would detest a rejection, glasstiger. But would you protest it? ;)

Just kidding, I had to. The admissions committees from most top schools say that protests are a complete waste of time and only make everyone irritated. I do not think that it will change a thing, but you are free to try I guess. No one can stop you. It just won’t change the decision.

Dude deferral must be such a pain. I couldn’t imagine getting one. Geez. Like… what do you feel? Yay that I’m not bad enough to get rejected but not great enough to get in outright? What kind of feeling is that? Btw, do they waitlist SCEA kids or just defer them?

I was thinking of waiting for the hard copy letter, and doing it the old fashioned way. I feel like I could take the news better if its a physical thing… i dunno. Do any of you know when/if the letters get sent?

also Im going to get all decked out in my bike gear, so that the moment I find out, I can go ride up some super steep hill to let out my joy/disapointment. Nothing like some lactic acid to make you forget all your sorrows/rejoice…

D was deferred last year from Stanford and then accepted in March. The email subject for the deferral was: Your Admission Decision from Stanford University

The subject for the email that contained her admittance: Your Stanford Application Decision

Word of advice…if you are deferred you should definitely take advantage of supporting your application with the OPTIONAL UPDATE FORM (from the email: We also invite you to use the Optional Update Form (accessible online) to let us know about your new activities and achievements, and send any new test scores you might have.)
