MFA Acting Tips

I know that a candidate’s performance at auditions makes up almost 100% of the MFA acting program decision at schools like Yale, NYU, Julliard, Brown, ART, and American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. I’m wondering if there are any MFA acting programs that also consider other factors (letters of recommendation, acting experience, etc.)?

Your LOR, resume and transcript are all important as are any essays you have to write however none of that trumps the audition or what they are looking for. For example when my d applied the first time to MFA programs, the only females called back for second looks at Juilliard were tall brunettes. Given that she is a short blonde she was counted out from the get-go, but this is the same with any roles you are auditioning for as well.

^^^Did your daughter get in a the second time? I’ve heard of folks auditioning 2 or 3 times.
