My son was accepted into the CALARTS and USC acting MFA. They are both considered some of the best in CALIFORNIA. Does anybody know the difference between these two LA bound schools? What are the pros and cons of each?He is still thinking about which one he will pick. It is not easy because they both seem wonderful to him!Anybody out there have info/ideas/feedbkack?

First of all, congratulations. These are both great options. To clarify, CalArts is not IN Los Angeles, it is about 20 minutes north of LA in a suburb called Santa Clarita. CalArts has a more experimental rep, while USC seems more connected. USC is in the heart of LA, is less isolated, is closer to theaters and nightlife…your son should visit to see which is preferable.

Thank you for your reply niftydesign! We are also amazed with the good news. As parents we are also clueless with acting schools and training styles.
Regarding training as an actor, USC describes their program as conservatory-style training program. How is this different or not to the experimental rep you describe Calarts offers?Your also mention that USC is more connected—do you mean connections also?
