MH issues

I thought I would create a separate thread from my graduation outfit

As I mentioned, I am going to graduate from professional school this spring hopefully, and have had a lot of mental health issues throughout my higher education, finally being diagnosed bipolar 2 this spring, which helped a lot.

This forum helped me a lot in knowing I was not alone.
So if you have any questions on the struggling student POV or any general questions really, please feel free to ask  (I didn’t want to put this in the student part of the forum because I don’t feel ready to give advice to my peers)

Best wishes

Just want to congratulate you on this achievement. As a parent whose family has some health and psychiatric conditions (including bipolar 1) I know what it takes to do what you have done, and appreciate your perseverance. It is so nice of you to post this thread. Thank you!

@compmom thank you :). It was awful before I had my diagnosis as I didn’t have the right treatment (an antagonist one actually), and I had to take several medical leaves, but I’m so happy I went through with it :relaxed:

I am in veterinary school btw, if that helps put things into context. I have a good friend who is bipolar 1 in medical school, so it can be done

Wow, @oneandone, congratulations. I also have kids with psychiatric conditions, so I can appreciate your hard work and perseverance. Good luck to you!

@MaineLonghorn Thank you :), your posts have been very helpful in being so outspoken that I felt less alone :). Wishing you the best for your children, and please don’t hesitate if you have any questions

By the way @MaineLonghorn , you mentioned I seem to recall that your son was into humanitarian action, and that is what I wish to do also  (vector-borne illnesses, food safety,…, during humanitarian emergencies)

@oneandone, that’s great. I love it that young people are so much more involved than my generation. I know a young woman who met her husband at Maine Maritime. They’ve been working in Houston for a few years, making so much money they’ll be able to retire in their 30s. They have decided to spend the next year on a ship that travels around the world on humanitarian missions. They have a young child, too.

Thanks for your post. It’s so nice to hear about people that have turned a corner on personal challenges.

Thank you all for your replies and encouragment :). Please don’t hesitate if you have any questions on what it feels like / coping strategies / …
