<p>Its not that that Bush is a racist, but simply incompetent. After 9/11, he had one purpose. Make America safe. Make contingency plans and prepare for “what if” scenarios. As of Katrina, this nation wasnt ready to handle a catastrophe. The fact people are pointing fingers is proof of that. If Bush had done his job, there would be no questions of jurisdiction. But he didn’t. Unfortunately, this isnt really news to me.</p>

<p>This is a public accountability thread, though. You know, establishing standards for our public employees. Started by a public employee, who’s paid with taxpayer dollars.</p>
<p>He hasn’t been removed, simply moved to Washington, DC because the President of the United States and the head of the Department of Homeland Security believe Mike Brown is the best qualified man in the nation to prepare the federal response to future disasters, especially as we are now in the middle of hurricane season.</p>
<p>This isnt the first hurricane season hes been through. So why is he being called back for this one. There is as much chance of another Katrina this year as there was the years before. As a florida resident who has lived through three of last years four storms, as well as Andrew, my personal experience tells me a storm is random. Just because we had a bad one, doesnt mean we will or wont have another. So, why has he been called back this year, and not the previous ones?</p>

<p>Of course, I always more about substance than style.</p>
<p>Driver, thank you for identifying something for me to work on so I can better earn my salary. When I was a kid, my teachers, being somewhat misinformed about spelling, told me to read dictionaries and more books…so I did, my vocabulary grew and my speed for reading novels increased so by sixth grade I was reading a book a night but…alas…my spelling didn’t improve…because people who read fast don’t pay a lot of attention to individual letters, we look at word shapes and context. I have even memorized a number of spelling rules…i before e except after c or when sounding like a as in neighbor and weigh. That works as long as you aren’t trying to spell meiosis or about a 1,000 other words. Oddly enough, I am dangerous at scrabble, often beating better spellers and for some reason, I find typos and spelling errors upside down easier than right side up. Unfortunately, I have gotten too old to stand on my head when I use the computer. I had a much easier time spelling in Hawaii, where they get by with fewer letters and stricter vowel sound rules. </p>
<p>Perhaps I am one of the last casualties of 1066, when the French brought their soft c’s and ion’s sounding like shun to merry old England. If not 1066, certainly the nobility/cleric split on the use of greek vs. latin might be the cause of my problem.
Did you ever notice that the word fish can be spelt photi using various greek and latin root sounds. Ph from photo; o from women; ti from intuition. I do find this language strange, don’t you?</p>
<p>Finally, I commend you for being concerned about how tax dollars get wasted, you will be pleased to know that as a public school teacher with an Ivy League education (Cornell), a Masters Degree, and years of experience… I almost earn as much as I used to earn, before I became a teacher over a dozen years ago, or as much as the political hacks like Michael Brown…plus they school district won’t spring for valet parking or even a driver.</p>

<p>None of this addresses the concern that a man may have pretended to have more credentials and experience that he really had, took a job that he might not have been equipted to do…and the consequences might have been the death of many of our frail, and needy citizens. Now I wonder who else is not equipted to do their job…where was that list…CIA, military intelligence (no weapons of mass destruction, no friendly flag waveing can’t wait to have a democracy crowds welcoming us…no plan to get out…I can’t travel with my swiss army knife, and someone might be checking to find out what book I checked out of the library last night (I the moon of red ponies, by James Lee Burke) but the Federal Government didn’t know that their were thousands of people trapped without water, because none of them read newspapers or watch television news casts.</p>
