michael jordan vs my roommate

My roommate and I argue about a lot of stupid ****. A few days ago, we were arguing about nature versus nurture. Eventually we came to a specific example. My roommate says that, given 1000 years of nonstop training, he could beat michael jordan in a one on one basketball game to 100. Some details about this claim: my roommate would not age during those 1000 years (21 currently). He would be able to study jordan’s tapes during those 1000 years, he would have access to proper training equipment/strategies/anything else he could need, and he would not have any responsibilities besides training. He is a 6’2’’ guy who is currently pretty good at pick-up basketball, but he didn’t play for his high school basketball team or anything. Michael jordan would be at his prime (he would be as good as he was in like '92 or something, he’s not training during those 1000 years).

Yes or No. Could he beat him in this epic one on one game!?

Is Michael Jordan also training during these 1000 years?

no he’s not training, he’s just waiting on his throne. or my roommate has a hyperbolic time chamber or something…

:| of course your roommate would win. MJ while arguably the best of all time in his prime, is not some kind of basketball deity. as a guy who is pretty good at ball myself, i can tell you that amt of practice almost always takes precedence.

do you realize how long 1000 years is lmao especially with “proper training equipment/strategies/anything else he could need”

i hope you are not the 1 saying that he cant beat MJ after that long … why you even arguin bout a topic like this !!!

Why doesn’t Michael get to keep practicing? He just sits and scarfs on Doritos while this kid gets to train like an Olympic all star? I bet Michael wouldn’t even be able to walk much less beat him in a game. Poor Michael

Lmaoooo this is so funny, sometimes me and my friend talk about random stuf like this too when we are bored lolll. Last time we talked about old people being able to fish properly… Haha

I think Michael Jordan would still win. Your friends joints would completely deteriorate after 1000 years of training. Michael Jordan would be fresh in his prime.

Michael Jordan is getting old. Can he still keep up with the younger players?

(Sorry if that’s a completely asinine question, I don’t watch basketball and don’t know what’s going on. I heard there’s some Lebrown[?] guy who everyone likes now)

^ He said it would be Michael Jordan from '92 when he was at his best. And you are talking about Lebron James, and he doesn’t have any championship rings, whereas Jordan retired with 6 (in repeat the 3peat fashion). So until Lebron even wins one, which he might with Shaq on his team next year, he will never be regarded hands down to be on Jordan’s level.

its Lebron, but lebron vs mj = mj all the way (would pay 10000 bucks to see that btw)

LOL @ “LeBrown.” Even I know that guy’s name.

Oops :o I told you all I know nothing about basketball. I knew was le-something. I was going to say Lebob at first. So lebrown is a step up.

1000 years? Your friend would absolutely destroy Michael Jordan. A complete blowout.

His joints wouldn’t deteriorate because that was one of the conditions (he wouldn’t age). Also, Michael Jordan would not be able to practice as well because that defeats the premise.

If you do anything consistently for 1,000 years, you can be crazy good in just about anything.

Imagine what someone with normal IQ can do if he or she study a language for 1000 years.

lol this is why i love CC - threads like this

After reading “Talent is Overrated,” I believe that given 1000 year of dedicated training, your friend can defeat MJ. Maybe not three out of five, but maybe two out of five games.

How could you have possibly misunderstood the nature/nurture debate this thoroughly?

And your roommate would destroy MJ.

It doesn’t matter if he didn’t age, his joints would still be destroyed after 1,000 years of training. That much stress on his joints would wear them down. If the effects of training didn’t have a toll on his joints for the reason that he wouldn’t age, then how would any part of his body develop over time as a result of training.

I would go with Michael Jordan. Even with unlimited training, your friend probably doesn’t have the genetic make up to gain some of the athletic attributes of Michael Jordan. Even with 1,000 years of training, you’re friend won’t necessarily be more skilled than Michael Jordan.

And Jordan has a 4" height advantage, definitely a longer wingspan than you’re roomate, and a much taller standing reach than you’re roommate.

If you’re friend wasn’t good enough to even play college ball which I suspect (maybe not even high school ball), then even with 1,000 years training, it’s unlikely that he’d beat Jordan.
