michael jordan vs my roommate

Yet if you perfect that skill you’ll still be much slower than the Olympic finalist. Nit pick if you will, but sports like swimming and track rely a lot more on pure athleticism.

I don’t think swimming is a good comparison, because of how much improvement is being made in the sport. Look at the winning times from the 80’s compared to the current ones. I’m not 100% sure, but almost all of the times from this olympic in swimming, will be better than the gold medalist from the 80’s.

if you look at the 1980s standards for any sport and compare it to now you’ll find a difference. world records are broken in every sport and competitive event, not just swimming.
after 1000 years the roommate would win. practicing every single day for that long, not to mention the tapes he has, there’s no way he could be beat.

I totally disagree. I played JV basketball in HS and played in scrimmages against D1 college players and if the D1 guys tried hard I couldn’t even touch the ball, never mind get a shot off, score, or win a 1-on-1 game. Your point is taken on practicing skills … 1000 years of practice will allow this guy to max out his potential as a shooter and a ball handler. However, even at his max athletic talent level the roomate guy will not be able to compete; MJ will be much-much taller, longer, faster, and quicker and the other guy will not be able compensate … all that skill will do him no good if he is much-much less athletic.
