Academic Decathlon - Regional 4th place (Freshman), District Runner-up (Sophomore), Regional Runner - up (Sophomore), District Champion (Junior), Regional Champion (Junior), State Champion (Junior). - All of these are indivdual awards. In addition, I’m about 85% sure I hold the record for the highest ever score in my division in Texas.
Also, I led my team to the 4A state championship where we unseated the 16 year A.D. State Champions.

$4700 scholarship recipient this year in A.D.

UIL - District Champion - Math, Number Sense - TEAM AWARD
Regional Champion - Math; Regional Runners-up - Number Sense - TEAM AWARD.

State Champion - Math, Number Sense - TEAM AWARD.

OTHER
I should have 2 solid recs - My A.D. Coach should write an amazing one- I’m one of his best students, My Pre-AP/ AP Chem teacher also loves me, and I’m going to be a TA for her next year, so that should help her write a good rec.

I think I’m a pretty good writer, and my essays are really passionate about how Academic Decathlon and the people I met and learned about changed my life.

I’ve taken 3 classes at Colleges Before, PreCal at Rice, USHistory the next year at Rice, and Organic Chemistry at Harvard.

MISCELLANEOUS
I’m an URM (black)
I’m also 15 (will be 16 at time of application).
By the way, if my EC list looks weak, just realize that Decathlon takes up about 250-300 hours of team practice per year. That DOES NOT include the numerous hours in which I prepare on my own.
So yeah, right now I have:

MOST FAVORITE SCHOOLS : Stanford>>>Cornell=Duke>CalTech
SCHOOLS I KINDA SORTA LIKE: Northwestern> MIT> Princeton > Carnegie Mellon>UCB>Rice>Columbia
SAFETIES : UTAustin (top 10% rule), Georgia Tech.

Any tips on where else I should apply? How much will the lower GPA hurt me? Should I do Stanford SCEA? How do all of these places rank (Reach, match, safeties)?

You will get in everywhere. I have chanced a lot of people and there is no doubt that your excellent scores, grades, and URM status would make you a shoo in. Also, don’t let anyone in the college you choose to attend get the idea that race got you in. Your scores are good enough to beat anyone.

Definitely do Stanford SCEA. You have great chances at all your schools!!

ok, thanks for the encouragement guys- anyone else? - I’m really worried about my GPA, too.

bump! s

Are you kidding me? you’re going to be 16 and you’ve already taken both AB and BC Calc? How? And you’re taking 9-10 APs next year? How is that possible- don’t you have to take like phys ed and other required courses?

u’re in everywhere u apply…if u fill in an application at least, u’re in at any college. HYP are matches for u.

■■■■■?

if you’re being serious, here’s the deal: you will not have fun in college. you will get picked on an inordinate amount. Wait til you’re older for crying out loud!

I’m actually not a ■■■■■ - alot of people have told me that I should wait a year, but I’m in a hurry - alot of doctors, especially neurosurgeons don’t start practice until their mid-to late 30s. I want a headstart.

And what about my low-ish GPA (for Stanford and Ivies, etc. anyways)?

EDIT:
Next year I’m taking - Physics B, Government, MacroEconomics, English Literature, Biology, Art History and European History as classes. That’s 7 AP exams.

I’m definitely self-studying Physics C E, Physics C M, (2 more) and I may or may not do French and/or MicroEconomics.
That’s how I’m doing 9-10. (or 11 maximum, but probably not).

I know you want to get a headstart, but stop thinking so far into the future for a moment. Don’t you want to have a life? As in a social life? You know, I read once that a large majority of married couples met in college. You’re just gonna blow the 4 best years of your life like that? What a waste…

you have no chance at any school

mwa hahahahaha

hookem - i’ve heard this argument many, many times, and I understand your Point of View, but IMO, work comes first, relationship next. I can get married after I have a stable job. You know, I read somewhere that almost 1/2 of today’s marriages end up in divorce.

all right what about friendships? it’s going to be nigh impossible for you to make friends. Everyone knows that healthy friendships are key to good mental and even physical health. I can guarantee you that NO ONE in college wants to hang out with a 16 year old.

Hmm - i’ve always been young, and I have friends, so I don’t see that as a problem. And if they don’t want to hang out with me then - their loss (j.k).

Seriously though, your probably not going to convince me to wait a year, so with all due respect could we keep this a chance thread and advice on other colleges to consider?

Thanks.

You’re interested in Neurosurgery? Have you thought about a 7 year med program, if you’re that into getting ahead? How sure are you about this? Do you feel burned out at all? If so, you may want to take it slow with a plain old 4 year BA and then apply later.

You’d have a great shot at Northwestern HPME, Saint Louis, probably Brown PLME (I don’t know the acronym?)

This may be unrelated, but do you look older than 15/16?

Your GPA is good, and you do have extracurriculars. Did you do well in your college classes? (As?) If so, you should be fine. Where did you get your B’s?

Did you self study Psych? You 5’d all the other ones, except Psych, which is generally regarded as one of the easier ones lol. I have a feeling you’re mad about that one. Also, Physics B isn’t even worth your time. It doesn’t really mean anything to most colleges. At this point you’re just stat padding. I don’t think they accept that as elective credit, but you should check with your schools.

Have you visited Stanford? I was disappointed by the campus, but I look for something unusual when I go there. I loved Berkeley, but I couldn’t tell you why for some reason.

Contrary to all the other “matches” that have been bestowed upon this precocious 15 year old, I have to say that HYPS are all going to be reaches.

The Good:
Young (great potential)
Unparalleled number of AP’s

The Okay:
Awards

The Bad:
GPA
Extracurriculars

The SAT score is definitely good enough for all the scores, but I would rather not consider it an asset.

The GPA is definitely a bit low, and even though you have taken an inordinate amount of AP’s, HYPS isn’t that forgiving. But I guess it might be partially offset.

The extracurriculars are focused only on the academics…from what I know/conjecture, universities want people who can succeed in the arts, academics, and the athletics, and moreover, have a social life and bring something new and exciting to the campus.

So even though you have incredible extra-curriculars in the academics, you have none in the other two.

But that’s my theory. Hope you draw some thought from that.

Would you care to chance me?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/544872-i-love-grass-mostly-ivy.html

what is a ■■■■■?

b-b-b-bump!

you’re amazing, and youre a URM which should help your chances. I would def apply stanford scea cause you have a legit chance at making it.

b-b-b-bump!
