Does anyone have an idea on who is eligible for the Michigan Competitive Scholarship income wise? I keep reading “need based” and that it depends on the FAFSA. I just would like to see an estimated income range.

kelf…Here’s a link to the fact sheet from this year’s Competitive Scholarship, although I don’t see a specific income range or EFC mentioned for the “need” component. There is some contact info at the bottom of the sheet, so I’d recommend you call and ask. You might also want to check and see if the program is expected to be funded for next year, as budgetary issues vary from year to year. Good Luck!!

Also, keep in mind that receiving the scholarship may not get you any more money. When my D received it, the school reduced her grant aid by the amount of the scholarship. :o

It isn’t actually income based. Each school has an MCS EFC, which is not always the same as the regular EFC (it was where I used to work, but it wasn’t at my son’s school). There is a formula that is used to determine eligibility, and you might get the MCS at one school but not at another. Some schools will reduce school grant aid for MCS, but many do not do that. It is one of those things … you just have to wait and see. And to make it even better, the state doesn’t usually send the money to schools until December for fall term - some schools will make you pay first & refund your money when it comes.
