Michigan vs Emory

Daughter got into both schools as a transfer. She’s looking to major in Japanese studies with possible minors in drawing and/or creative writing. Price (OOS) will be about the same.

Michigan looks strong (top10) in asian studies and creative writing with a good (top 25) art department. Nice facilities. But cold winters.

Emory has a tad higher overall rank/reputation? (obviously debatable). top 10 in CW and only a minor in studio art. Nice campus, area and weather.

Any thoughts are suggestions? Thanks!

I am not sure it is even debatable that Emory has a stronger reputation than Michigan. WUSTL has been ranked higher than Cornell or Brown for the last 20 years, but it is not nearly as reputable. The USNWR employs a highly flawed methodology, and the outcome sometimes leaves much to be desired.

Since cost is the same, and both are truly excellent universities overall, I would recommend going for fit.

Alexandre is usually right and rightfully argues for fit. I would also argue for size of alumni body, global recognition, and resources…Michigan all the way…
