By a narrow margin, University of Michigan team was the first to cross the finish line on the last day of the competition. Overall, Quantum finished roughly two-and-a-half minutes ahead of the second place team, Petroleum Institute.

The University of Michigan Solar Car Team is a 501©(3) non-profit organization at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It is the most successful solar car team in North America, having won the North American Solar Challenge (NASC) eight times (out of a possible twelve) and is currently the defending five-time champion. The team has also placed third in the World Solar Challenge (WSC) five times.
