MicRofridge...

is it a good idea to have one? i made a possible pro/con list

pro:
split the rent with ur roomate (70$ per roomate)
do not have to lug it in the car to and fro
they put it in ur room for u

con:
after years of use the frigde is no longer effective? is that true?

and can u adjust the temperature with the fridge? does stuff actually freeze in the freezer?

If either your roommate or you are not flying to UIUC, I would suggest buying a minifridge for about $150, which would cost much less than renting for 4 years.

any more ideas? my question is regarding the efficiency. (see above)

bump

bump bump…

If you rent the microfridge for the room, you do not keep those for four years. It is for the school year and they pick up all the ones they rent at the end of the year. And what they deliver to you at the start of the year is not usually new ones–they just just keep using the ones they rent, replacing them with new ones as needed. The microfridge is adequate and good to have, particularly for holding things to drink like bottled water, etc., and warming up small things to eat. The very small freezer compartment does freeze. If it is not working they will replace it. You can buy a microwave and fridge for a lttle more and then have them for multiple years but then you have to move them in and take them out.

you said “adequate”

my brother had a microfridge and his fridge apparently didnt work as good and turned food blue. I guess this is my concern. If i get a new fridge will that work better instead?

bump…

bump again…

just buy a fridge and bring it to campus. over four years, it’s cheaper, and the only inconvenience is lugging it back and forth in august and may. like im_blue suggested, it’s probably a wise choice unless you’re flying to chambana or something like that.

Thee photo I saw of a microfridge on the webstie was really samll–we have one a bit largeer that I had bought aniticpating college use but it may be over the 3CF limit. How closely is the CF limit monitored? The micrfowave part looked really small too–we have one of those in the den for college use too. Do the dorms all have elevators for moving this stuff (a portable dolly is recommended regardless!)? I even saw an ad for bound room-size areas rugs that can be purchased–but who does the cleaning–surely not my kid haha! I also read that the dorms have a ‘free’ cable outlet and even have their own movie channel.
