Probably a silly, and not very important thing, but it bugs me, and CC people are so knowledgeable!! When I save a word document it always shows 2 files. One has the actual name of the file as I saved it, the other is similar but the first couple of letters are changed to $$ signs. The $$ files say they are invalid if I try and open them. So in my documents files I have a big list of $$ files, then later on my actual files I can access. What is that all about?

Those are temp files, created so that if Word crashes, there’s something to recover. They are supposed to be deleted once the Word file is saved and closed. You might want to refresh your view of your documents file, and they should go away.

It is a temp file. If you still have the document open you will see the file name with the $$. it is a good thing - trust me :)
