I think I want a Microsoft Surface for my Chanukah gift this year. I played with one at the Microsoft Store this afternoon and liked it a lot. I also like the fact that it comes pre-loaded with Office, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with it yet, as it is new? My husband has an Ipad, but he’s not good at sharing!

Also, does anyone know if there are any coupons or discounts on it out there?

It’s so new I haven’t heard of any discounts at all.

You might want to look into the Office thing; it’s not exactly the same Office you’re used to, though it may still be what you want.

(As a note, I was recently surprised and somewhat annoyed to discover the keyboard - touch or type cover - only works in landscape. I do nearly everything in portrait.)

The model that you saw was problem the Surface RT. Surface RT is an ARM - based operating system and won’t run traditional Windows programs.

The Surface RT comes with Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition. This version is normally about $99 for a 3-system license. I do not know whether or not the professional/business version is available for the Surface RT.

Someone that tried the covers told me that the touch cover is a 0/10 on usability compared to a regular keyboard. He also told me that the type cover is a 5/10 on usability. The Surface Pro is more interesting though quite a bit more expensive but at least it will run all of your Windows software.

We have enough hardware around the house for now though I’m giving something to my mother so I’ll have to replace it with something at home.
