Microwave questions

Out of curiosity, is there a way to cheaply repair a non-working keypad on a Sharps R-5A54 microwave?

Had it for around 15+ years and am hoping to get it working considering the problem is limited to the “Start” key.

If not, what’s the state of the microwave market out there and are there brands/models which are comparable in size to the abovenamed model and will last at least 10+ years?

Thank you all for any help you can provide.

Go on sharp’s website and see if there is a customer service address or phone number to which you can pose this question.

I know nothing at all about this model so I can’t suggest anything comparable. But microwaves have become cheaper and cheaper. You can get a good one for $100 these days.

the center keys (2,5,8,0) on our Sharp stopped working a few years ago and I was too cheap to replace it. Drove everyone else nuts…2 minutes was put in as 1:61, 5 was 4:61, you get the picture!

The final straw was last month the glass turntable crack in half after use. The replacement with shipping was $45.

Picked up a replacement online from bestbuy for $100, including shipping. Had it in 3 days.

Listed the old one on the ‘free’ section craigslist with all its warts and left it at the curb. It was gone in 2 days.
