Mid-College Transfer - Indiana to California (Is it Possible?)

To start, I was rather apathetic during my Freshman and Sophomore years in HS. I had succumbed to a 1.97 GPA due to skipping and abrogating from doing any work. There was a lot of issues at the time that played a prominent role in my failures; and after a vocational epiphany during the summer between sophomore and junior year, I came to realize that I needed to put in the effort to realize my dreams. By the end of junior year, I raised my semester GPA to 3.9. I will now be graduating with a 4.6 GPA - but a 3.4 cumulative.

Due to my past failures, I will be attending a mediocre university in my home state - Indiana; however, I don’t wish to end my collegiate years here. I want to eventually end up attending UCLA. My plan is to earn a place on the Dean’s list each year, and hopefully transferring by Junior year. However, here’s the issue - I come from a family that only makes 90K a year. Is there any way I can earn merit scholarships and aid to radically ease the costs of attending UCLA in 2018? Don’t post any pessimistic answers that are along the lines of: “No, sorry; it’s impossible”. I don’t cooperate with that mentality.

Thank you for the assistance. You’re saving a life here.

Great work so far - you seem to be on the right track. CA gives no aid to out of state applicants. It is possible but, OOS transfer admission to a school like UCLA is hyper competitive. It is very difficult to map specific courses across state lines. You’ll need to complete just the right classes and earn a 3.6-3.8 GPA depending on your major. Honestly, the class selection is the harder of those two.

Rather than transfer as a Jr, I’d encourage you to get a BS in Indiana with a high GPA - then come to CA for grad school. That’s the degree that really matters anyhow.
Good luck
