Do colleges begin reviewing applications without senior grades/a mid-term report? I’m worried that since mine is being sent in so late, this Friday (many delays, incompetent high school) that my application will be tossed out/looked over. Does anyone think this is true? Do colleges more readily choose applicants that have all their materials submitted? I’m referring to top 20, very selective colleges
Yes
That’s typical. Don’t worry. You can’t send in a midyear until it’s actually available. Every single college knows this.

This is one of those topics on which the Yale Admissions Podcast was very helpful:
HANNAH: Your midyear report.
MARK: Very good. Very good. Tell us about that.
HANNAH: Well, your midyear report lets us your progress for the first half of your senior year of high school. So basically it lets us know how you’re doing. We want to make sure that you are keeping up your strong academic performance not getting that senioritis. Your counselor will send in your mid-year report sometime in January or February. If you’re a current senior and listening to this now, make sure that made your report is in so we can see how you’re doing in your current year.
MARK: And this can sometimes be confusing because there’s no strict deadline on it. And sometimes on that status portal people see that it’s missing on January 5, and they start to panic. It’s going to be due when your school has your first semester grades available. So essentially when you’ve got some senior grades that are ready to share, your counselor should send them along. But it’s OK if that’s not until the end of February.
HANNAH: Right. Totally. And I work with a lot of international students whose schools don’t produce mid-year reports or anything like that. So we know that not everyone is going to have one of these to share.
OK, so basically, for domestic students it is fine if it doesn’t come in until the end of February. So you are all good.
