Mid-year reports and merit

HS is asking where he wants the reports sent, now that Q2 grades are in. S24 has a list of 7 schools up for consideration at this point. Of those, none have officially requested mid-year reports, though the Common App does say that mid-year reports are required for 2 of those 7.

Some of these schools are only an option if the financial aid package is good enough. All of these 7 have offered some level of merit awards, but S24’s grades have gone up this past semester so we’re unsure if he might actually be able to get more merit or other grants/scholarships. For example at UNH his recalculated core GPA would likely place him in a higher merit tier if senior year grades are factored in vs. what they initially offered.

So my questions are:

  1. Should S24 have mid year reports sent to all 7 schools or only some?
  2. Should he contact the schools to point out the grades increased and ask them to consider that (or should his GC help with that)?

If all 7 schools will accept a mid year report, I’d have the GC send it since it sounds like it can only help. If there are any new awards or accomplishments that have happened since the application was submitted, I’d have the GC also mention and highlight.

I would have the contact be through the GC unless a school wants a LOCI (letter of continued interest) from the student.

Thank you! He says he will email his GC and ask her to include a note to this effect. Here’s hoping!
