@missypie, the Beatles “I Saw Her Standing There” always gives me a boost, as does “Pump It” by the Black Eyed Peas" and “Problem” cover by Pentatonix.
@missypie I teach exercise so I am always looking for music. It is so personal but some songs I am using right now
Old stuff - White Wedding -Billy Idol, Walking on Sunshine -Katrina and the Waves, Old Time Rock and Roll -Bob Seagar, Don’t Bring me Down -ELO,
New Stuff: Baby Love -Petite Meller, Waiting for Love- Avici, Shut up and Dance -Walk the Moon, Last Night -the Vamps, Geronimo- Sheppard
Download Spotify on your phone, put the playlist “MoodBusters” in your playlists and then you can play it on “shuffle” without paying the subscription price. Might use a little data if you are not in wireless, but I believe it’s very little because I use Spotify every time I run and my data usage is very low. It’s upbeat, peppy music.
Joining the club - plateaued at 5.6…need to break the barrier but not sure what more to do.
Somehow I manage to loose weight on weekend but not when I go to work. I guess stress from work holds the pound.
Stress is an interesting animal. In some people, stress stimulates cortisol, which causes weight gain, particularly around the abdomen. In others, stress causes extreme appetite suppression and weight loss.
Unfortunately, I’m a gain weight under stress gal.
Didn’t Oprah have an episode or book about stress and weight. I remember she hauled out a cart of fat that she lost.
Oprah has talked at length about her overeating. She attributes it to emotions relating to stress, insecurity, and perhaps more importantly, to being molested as child.
People who have experienced rape, sexual assault, molestation, etc., are at risk for eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive eating.
@Nrdsb4 – I agree with you about gaining weight during stress, but I think there is a direct correlation with the stress-induced eating. (Or my own stress-induced eating!)
I find that really extreme stress results in weight loss, but I am talking about the type of stress you never wish to live through.
Yes, some people have stress eating. It is believed however, that the stimulation of cortisol (which is a response to stress) is appetite inducing in many individuals.
Most people eat to combat stress, small pleasure, but sometimes it’s too stressful and they can’t eat.
I am of the “if it’s too stressful I can’t eat” club.
Yep - “normal” stress I’m an eater - but “over the top” stress - can’t eat at all.
I will be joining a 24 Hour Fitness tomorrow as I turn 65 this month and it is a freebie from my health insurance.
I hate clubs overall. I hate the smells and the people who do not wash down their machines. The machines I use are broken when I want them. The TV’s are set on Fox News and sports. I hate that it is never cold enough for me. I hate the drive. ~X(
But I do need to mix it up so am going to give this a huge try. My plan is to go 2 times a week and focus on the weight machines. I will just come home to shower. I also will continue my hand weights and kettlebell at home as well as the Eliptical.
So that is the plan. I have a party at the end of August and a big event the middle of Sept. I am determined to drop 8 lbs. I can do it but it is the keeping off that is the toughest, esp. when the rains set in.
I have successfully not been sitting as much and my new FitBit replacement will be here at the end of the week.
Fingers crossed.
Maybe I should be thankful that I’m not in category that “over the top” stress that I can’t eat. I can’t imagine that would do my health any good.
I really like my gym, once I get there. I’m a multi-tasker. I ride the bike, watch HGTV, read and listen to my iPod. And I sweat, I don’t just ride slowly. Then I use the machines. I can take MANY classes for free, but I’ve only taken one in 8 years. But next week I’m going to try yoga. I bought a mat and everything. I’ve decided I need to work on balance and my core. Wish me luck.
@runnersmom I added high intensity interval training on the exercise bike to my routine this week. Since I’m in better shape than when I started this renewed push to health and can’t run, I was looking for some way to up my cardio workout. (And it’s too hot and muggy to do much outside.) Imagine my surprise when I got on the scale today and saw my biggest weight loss yet! You might try some variation of a HIIT workout to move past a stall.
Another thing that’s worked for me when I was in a plateau was doing all my eating in an 8-hour window. I don’t change how much or what I eat, only when I eat it. It does go against the grain of “eat first thing to jump start your metabolism” (well, unless you want to be finished eating by 3pm).
The reasoning behind both these two things is trick your body into not being complacent with the status quo. There’s also carb cycling (haven’t tried it) and throwing a “cheat day” in the mix. Also remember the scale isn’t the be-all-end-all if you’re working out. You could be gaining muscle along with losing fat.
@oregon101 Happy to hear the FitBit peeps have finally addressed your recalled tracker. Hope it came when expected!
I was out and about yesterday. Too busy to eat. Had canned salmon and lettuce for lunch and socketed salmon for dinner. That must have done it, I lost maybe a pound. I think light food helps me lose weight.
@aMacMom,
That’s actually a VERY good idea. I think I will do some interval training tomorrow on the bike.
I lurk on the fitness threads but I’ve never posted. I’m 54 and in the last year I’ve lost 35 lbs. I’ve never been really overweight, just very muscular and ‘blocky’ and very sluglike. I surprised myself (and everyone who knows me) by learning to love exercise. I’ve dropped two dress sizes (10 to 6) and three/four jeans sizes (8 to 0/2). It’s been amazing. I always talked (and talked, and talked) about getting in shape and one day I just decided to do it. I realized that time would pass anyway, so why not use it instead of b*tching about it. I use myfitnesspal and do a combination of HIIT using TRX/bodyweights/kettlebells, and Barre3, a ballet barre core workout, along with a standing Pilates method that’s been great for my posture and back. Now I just need to add heavy weightlifting.
I’m seriously in the best shape I’ve ever been in, even though I’m old. It’s trite, but I’m here to tell you that if I can do it, anyone can! Good luck to everyone!!
