@jaylynn, that’s amazing! Did you make changes in your diet as well?
Oh, definitely. They say you can’t exercise the weight off, and they are right. Calorie deficit was the key. Exercise just allowed me to eat a little more and gives me good muscles
I didn’t do any crazy diet, and I didn’t restrict any foods I love. I just ate less. Less than I used to, and less calories than I put out. Simple.
@jaylynn, good for you! I’ve lost 19 lbs. since April 9 and my goal is 31. It’s slowed down recently, but I’m going to keep at it. Because I had textbook metabolic syndrome and blood work showed me to be pre-diabetic, I’ve been restricting simple and refined carbs (and A1c is now normal), but in doing that, I’ve probably decreased calories a bit as well. I know I’m not as hungry as I used to be when I was eating a fair amount of junk.
Wow-- 19 lbs down tells me you’re probably eating at a substantial deficit. And not as hungry even so? Win win!
I’m hoping to ride my bike 30 miles this morning, before it gets too hot. I have not been exercising as much as I should be lately, but you guys are inspiring me to do more.
Such inspiring stories! Congrats.
I’m here to report eating fish helped me lose more weight yesterday. Down to the lowest level in years, as in the last 3-5 years. But I’ll bet next week it will bounce back up because I have to work the whole week. I’m so really looking toward retirement soon, but it’s not soon enough.
Very envious of those without health issues allowing them to exercise as much as they want.
My grandmother used to complain so about her arthritis, and I was clueless as to what she was dealing with.
Not clueless anymore, unfortunately, I thought that I would be at least 10 or 20 years older before I had to deal with this.
Ek, I have the same problem. I can swim really well. I feel like it’s the least of effort and damage to my join.
Signed up at the club. I was very surprised at how nice it was. Lots of natural light and the music was not loud. Friendly workers. I did not like the perfume that a woman was leaving on all of the machines. So heavy I could taste it. And only one person wiped a machine down after using it. Everything looked clean and the locker room was spotless.
I will have a one hour training session this week. It all looked promising.
Down 2 lbs of the 3 I managed to gain last week. Writing down every bite of food and that always helps me. Not eating after 10 which is difficult as I go to be at 2. Will allow myself a yogurt if I am in dire need.
Good luck to everyone today.
We rode bikes 27 miles, but there were several hills, so I’m feeling good about that. Then did some yoga poses when we came home. I decided before I join a class I better get a little clue. I can do most of the basic 11 or 12 poses I found on-line, but I have to follow the instructions.
Lower carb seems to be helping me break my upward trajectory…I’m doing about 100-120 carbs at this point, Could go lower, but am trying not to get to starvation/desperation mode. Having a nice chunk of protein in my salad in the evening seems to be calming the late night munchies. I had been having my main meal at lunch and then was starving by 8-9 pm. I like the idea of eating within 8 hours. The staggered small meals all day long isn’t working for me – I get 200 calories in a small sitting and an hour later, I’m starving again.
I really believe that everyone needs to find what works for them, I have to stay away from sweets because if I eat a little bit I crave them even more. I don’t count calories, but writing down what I eat helps.
1214 - itis a good idea to take some yoga classes. The teachers can help you get the poses right.
I like savory stuff, I rarely eat sweet except fruits or small ice cream. Today I roasted 2 whole chickens which I got from Albertsons for 88cents a pound. Too cheap I can’t pass it up. I used the recipe from the Pioneer woman, free rosemary and lemon from my garden. It was not only tasty but cheap, better than El Polo chicken. I had a salad and beans with it. Nothing heavy. Ate water melon for dessert.
Walked 4 miles in the heat and humidity, so hit over 30 miles. Now drinking Oregon Pinot Gris wine, but I feel like I earned it.
plus Oregon Pinot Gris is delicious!
@Oregon101, we especially like King Estate. We buy it buy the case. I think A to Z is from there too. When we go out, if they have a on Oregon PG, that’s almost always what we order.
It is the best! There are many great ones.
Oops… Remember, alcohol works against you in reaching your goal of weight loss, so use it judiciously! One of the main dangers is that it makes you want to have a cube of cheese, some fruit, a few more cubes of cheese, a handful of crackers, some more fruit… And the next morning you begin to wonder… Where did the chunk of Flagship go? Where is the pack of apples I got at Costco?
(Putting a bottle of local Riesling - Eroica - into the fridge to chill for the tonight’s dinner…)
My fav is A to Z but enjoy King Estate as well. Our very best, purchased only on sale, is Adelshiem.
The owners of the vineyard’s D went to the same French American school as our D ( not in the same class) and they would bring cases of wine to our PTA meetings and Holiday events. D is 31, so a long time ago.
We also visted their home/vineyard for events a few times.
We choose West Coast wines always.
Now what were we discussing? Calories?
I actually drink a vodka tonic with loads of lime and Q tonic (25 calories for the entire bottle) rather than wine when I am seriously cutting back. Wine makes me hungrier and has more calories in the end.
I just bought a bottle of club soda to mix with wine for spritzers. I figure I can cut the calories in half that way.
