Middle aged life long nonsmoker now vaping in secret.

Vaping does not have the odor. It is not smoke but vapor.
Could be he smoked a long time ago before he met her.

Oh ok I thought she said it smelled like “vanilla.”

Maybe he’s troubled by something, middle-aged crisis or who knows what. And this is/was his new crutch?

The liquid smells like vanilla because he probably has a flavor that has vanilla in it. But I was referring to the odor that stays on a persons clothes and hands from smoking, does not exist with vaping.

True, it probably has fewer second and third hand consequences than other forms of nicotine and tobacco, but there isn’t enough research to support that. It is shown to be a great way for tobacco companies to reach out to vulnerable youth and has reached many more of them than tobacco because they see it is “cool” and “safer.” There is VERY LITTLE regulation of vaping liquids and pretty much anything can and is put into the electronic smoking devices (ESDs) and smoked.

I’d still be concerned about my kids being around someone who MAY STILL be vaping–kids are more influenced by what they see than any lecture any of us can give them. They want to be cool and fit in, which is how and why so many are drawn in to vaping–cool ads, cool smoke rings you can blow, “safe,” even tho there is virtually no regulation of what contaminants and chemicals are in the “e-juice,” and other problems with ESDs. In schools, kids are getting cocaine, methamphetamine and other things and putting it in the ESDs and smoking that as well. They are also blowing off and exhaling things into the air for others to breathe that may not want to inhale this 2nd hand smoke.

In HI, vaping is illegal everywhere that tobacco is illegal. It also cannot be sold to people under the age of 21.

"Ok so it was just nicotine ’

just nicotine?? JUST NICOTINE??
are you KIDDING ME ??
dont you KNOW that Cig manufacturers are trying to get NON smokers HOOKED on Nicotine, a HIGHLY addictive substance, through vaping???
why do you think its VERY DIFFICULT for smokers to quit smoking-??
BECAUSE NICOTINE , which is ADDED to cigarettes, is a A VERY ADDICTIVE CHEMICAL!
Like Opium, cocaine, etc etc!!!
That way they continue to earn BILLIONS by selling addictive chemicals to gullible people who think 'vaping" is SAFE, ha ha hahahah!

good God…

:open_mouth: :-t

Good god. Calm down. I’m an adult that was smoking for 20 plus years. Vaping is a significantly better alternative for me than smoking.
vaping is a method for smokers to quit smoking and continually reduce the amount of nicotine intake. The e liquids have varying levels of nicotine down to zero.
My lungs feel better and I certainly breath better now. The nicotine has been reduced to the lowest lvl before zero.

Let’s not go crazy and compare nicotine to opium and cocaine.
Btw nicotine is a natural substance in tobacco. In of itself has not been determined to cause cancer. The cancer causing substances in cigarettes and from smoking them is completely different than vaping. Please just do a quick wiki search on nicotine.

There have been significant studies regarding vaping and the potential health impact. While I hope more research continues to be done, it has already been proven to be MUCH better than smoking. Increased regulation is already in the works.

Please point to research that has vaping in such a negative light as you believe. This whole flavoring to addict kids is something that I’m sure no one vaping approves of. But adults who do vape appreciate the various flavors. It’s like flavored drinks.
I also find it the height of hypocrisy with a drug like marijuana becoming legal for recreational use. Let’s not lie to ourselves, the medical prescription to get marijuana is a joke. Do you see this massive outburst regarding flavored candies and food with THC? NOPE!
Just go online and check how many marijuana dispensaries are near you in Menlo Park. I went to menlo private so I know the area well.

two contractors who did a little work on my house would vape in their truck. I did not see they were in the truck when I walked out to get my mail… so much smoke was coming out in a steady stream i actually thought the truck cabin was on fire. (they just had one window cracked on the opposite side. when i got closer and could see threw the tints and saw them. I told the guy later that I actually thought your truck was on fire, I guess they hide in the truck to vape because their boss does not like them doing at peoples homes or businesses even outside. nothing healthy about it. (and I suspect maybe their vape might have also had mary jane but I did not smell it)

I suspect that your “lifelong nonsmoker” was in fact a smoker at some point in his life – maybe only for a few years, but that doesn’t matter. The craving for nicotine can be lifelong – it’s that addictive.

If that’s the case, and if something has prompted him to go back to nicotine, vaping is far better than smoking. Nicotine is what makes tobacco addictive, but it’s not the cause of most of tobacco’s adverse health effects. As long as the person sticks with vaping and doesn’t move on to smoking, I don’t see a huge problem.

My husband smoked early in life, quit, and went back to it during a stressful period in middle age. He has been smoking consistently now for almost 20 years. I would love it if he switched to vaping.
