Middle School SAT to Cornell?

Hey all,

Cornell requires all SAT scores from the College Board. I took the SAT in middle school for talent search purposes, and I’m wondering if I need to submit these to Cornell as well. It doesn’t really make sense to do this, but Cornell doesn’t address this anywhere on the admissions website.

I know that Stanford allows you to exclude these talent search scores:

Hoping someone can provide me with some insight on Cornell’s stance toward this issue.

Thanks!

You can log onto your college board account to confirm this. Assuming you participated in Duke TIP or a similar program, you’ll see that your middle school test scores have been purged from your college board records and not only are not required to be sent, they can’t be sent to the schools where you apply.

After looking a little more carefully, I actually took the SAT in 9th grade as a requirement to apply for a private school in my state.

The tests I took from middle school have been removed, as you correctly stated.

Now, what do I do with this freshman SAT?

Send the freshman year SAT.

Wouldn’t it detract from my application? The score is typical of that of a 9th grader.

No, it won’t. Colleges usually ask for all of your scores because they have their own way of computing the highest composite score. You certainly won’t be penalized for having scores outside of their average range, especially since the test was taken in ninth grade.
