I might ED to Midd! Love the linguistics program SOO much and everything about the classes, campus, and environment seems like the ideal college experience. On the surface Williams seems so similar but something about Midd is so much more compelling to me. Any French/Political Science/Arabic interested people here?
I don’t think I’ll ED, considering I haven’t visited and my top school (at the moment) isn’t Middlebury, but I’m going to a college fair featuring Middlebury and I’m super interested in on of their IR programs. @nwolter I’m interested in French and PoliSci!
I am worried though- even though I’m in line with the good scores (33C/34 Superscore) I’m worried that having a lower gpa will hurt me. My grades are super unbalanced (high humanities, decent stem but C in math this year just due to poor test day on final) and haven’t found many similar situations on CC… Lol.
Excited to apply to Midd!
Arabic and French here! Arabic is a big reason why Midd is at the top of my list (:
I submitted my ED app!
@ilovecoffee22 best of luck!
Have people had their interviews yet?
@honeyoolongtea : you should have been contacted - as interviewers, Midd wanted our reports back today (11/11).
If you haven’t been contacted for interview, ring Admissions and feel free to PM me.
Rich source of 2019 survey data on current Midd students’ experience on campus, scroll down for infographics:
https://middleburycampus.com/44797/news/zeitgeist-2019/
Topics include student experience of race, gender, sexuality, loneliness, feeling othered, financial need, athletics, culture, drugs, alcohol, sex, cheating, etc.
Redacted.
Oddly, all the charts and data are now missing from the public link. Almost as if someone let them know others were looking at the data.
I guess the student paper got word and decided, after the data has been public for months, that they didn’t want prospective students to have the benefit of a comprehensive understanding of the campus culture. A shame, as truth is always valuable. And there were many strengths, as well as opportunities for improvement. And change doesn’t happen unless you acknowledge the starting point.
Before other web links are scrubbed, here are some of the topics which were covered in the data which has now been deleted.
Notes From the Desk: Why Zeitgeist?
By BOCHU DING
March 21, 2019
There are some things we know about Middlebury. That more than a tenth of all its students are Economics majors, that more than a fifth come from families in the richest 1 percent of the U.S. and that the college has an 8:1 student–faculty ratio.
What we don’t know as clearly is how race is perceived on campus, what work-life balance looks like for the average Middlebury student, or what students truly think of party culture. These questions are left undiscussed because they are uncomfortable, nuanced and often difficult to approach.
Zeitgeist, The Campus’ first annual student survey, aims to change that.
As a forum for the Middlebury community, The Campus’ role is to tell its stories, whether they be conspicuous truths or underlying narratives waiting to be discovered. Combining data analysis and journalism, we hope to present these stories quantitatively and qualitatively in this project.
We want to explore topics that will not appear in an admissions brochure — how accessible mental health resources are, how the experiences of students of color differ from those of white students, and the realities of sexual health and relationships. We hope that Zeitgeist will create new openings for students to engage with difficult topics and that our findings will spark dialogue and lead to productive conversations within and between communities.
When we asked you for input in an email last week, we noted that “Belonging” emerged as a prominent theme, as indicated in the graph.
Sorted responses to the all-student email The Campus sent last week, requesting ideas for questions to ask in the Zeitgeist survey.
Students submitted questions for the survey such as: What made you feel othered? Have you ever experienced imposter syndrome? Do you feel like you miss out due to financial limitations? Do you want to transfer?
These questions tell us that many of us grapple with issues of affinity, acceptance and inclusion in a wide spectrum of ways. Our hope is that Zeitgeist will help each of us understand how we fit into the Middlebury puzzle.
The charts are still there - I can see them clearly on my laptop. The problem is probably your browser, or that your server has issues with the site that is hosting the charts. It’s not some conspiracy by some shadowy cabal.
I was contacted by an alum about an interview, but after I replied, she didn’t get back to me until after the deadline for them to submit the interviews had passed. Since this was not my fault, do you think this will hurt my chances?
What interests y’all so much about Midd/what do you wanna study?
@clairesxott definitely not! I hope you hear good things in the next few weeks, regarding admissions!
4 days away from ED results pals
