If I am not mistaken, I believe the plebes all got to go during the summer as part of their rotation; I recall hearing it was sobering and well worth the trip.

I haven’t been there yet. I really want to go.

Yes. The Class of 2010 as a part of Plebe Summer leadership training went to the Holocaust Museum.

My hubby and I went in the summer of 2000. We just thought we’d ‘spend the day’ there. Hmmmmm, after about 4 hours I started shaking, crying, feeling so devastated that I asked if we could leave. I stood outside of the museum for a bit - catching my breath. The museum is a very powerful reminder of the presence of evil and what happens when that kind of evil isn’t challenged. Mind you this was before Sept. 11, 2001. So I do encourage all Americans especially now who have become complacent about our current War against a militant evil mentality…to be reminded of this.

To clarify…all plebes attend a trip to Washington D.C. during plebe summer (over a 3 day period). They visit the Holocaust Museum and memorials along the Washington D.C. mall. Unless there is a radical change, this trip will not change in the near future.

The next time you are in the Baltimore/DC/Annapolis area, you must stop by this museum. The exhibits may be emotional, but the museum leaves you with a profound message that is unique to each individual; thus, that is why you HAVE to go!

Well said peskemom. So many are inclined to think evil was a function of the dark ages, ancient times, etc. 'Twas but a bit more than 3 score back that this evil nearly conquered the world. To think that its seeds are not now germinating is naive and dangerous. Indeed 9/11 was but a recent reminder.
