for those of us that are applying early, how important are our first midterm marks? Do the universities just want to say us doing something (like couple of APs) in our final year, or do they actually care how well we do them?

well, if u get accepted early, they dont matter too much as long as u dont screw them up, u basically just needa maintain it, or even slipping a little wil be fine. HOWEVER… if u get defered, it could be a very important factor because they mite wanan see how well u do in ur midterm grades, maybe u hav all they want, but they want to see another set of good and improved grades before they accept u, or if u get extremely impressive midterm grades,it will also help u compete in the regular poo. and of course if u get credits for AP grades…

so basically, IF acccept= not too important as long as no major slip
deferred= very important, u will be sending them in
rejected= i dont think i needa say much…

thanx a lot Nerj! those really helped me…but actually, the most urgent question I need to ask is how important are midterm marks FOR THE EARLY ADMISSION? In other words, since I’m applying early, will the midterm marks have a great deal of impact on my EARLY DECISION. Please help, again. Thanks!

me.mv:

They’ll be making a decision (12/15) BEFORE they have your grades if your typical semester is over at the end of December.

me.mv, the point is, you don’t know what the outcome of the early decision is. If you apply early and get in, then they are not that important

okay, let me clarify things a little bit:

Maybe things in CANADA are a bit different. We start our year on Sept. 7th, our entire midterm runs sth like Sept 7 - end of Nov. So we get a MIDTERM mark in mid october. That’s why I asked whether the admission ppl down south will look at my midterm marks (which will be out BEFORE even the app deadline for early) and how much the marks could impact my chances.

Am I all worrying too much here? :D

Just keep up the grades. If you have 1 B it would not matter. Becuse you could have 1 B and still make an A for the semester.

You are not worrying you are being cautious =)

well. if the college sees it, i would say its pretty damn important. if in any case the college suspects ur ‘slacking off’ or nething. it wouldnt be nice. u you try keep up with the previous grades, or better, imrpove them. (sorry for misunderstanding ur system, our midterm grade menas the December one) So how many grades do you get a year then, one in oct and…?

Well, our systems are kinda complicated, I think we receive 6 marks thru out the year—3 midterm marks and 3 term marks. The difference is that the 3 term marks are issued by report cards, whereas the 3 midterm marks are just handed out on a piece of paper (sort of like a caution bell informing everyone of their current situation). But from what I have heard, the schools DO have a formal document ready to be sent out as far as the first midterm mark is concerned. So yes, if the college wants to see them, they can. Now I wouldn’t slack off or anything for sure, but I was never too good at getting extremely high marks in AP courses, especially not in arts/history courses (I’m a math/econ guy). So my guess is I’d have a tough time getting the avg over 95%, but sth like a 93% shouldn’t be too hard.
