I’m another fan of Hay Seed’s wit and sense of humor! But really, is that true about getting into Eton…? Maybe you’re joking about that too but my son’s friend got in and it was a huge surprise for all of us. I thought maybe Eton is making a serious effort to diversify?

Anyway, Hay Seed (if he really is a kid) will go far whether he calls drinks soda or pop or lemonade (in England, that’s soda, not lemon-water-sugar) or calls athletic shoes sneakers, tennis shoes or trainers.

I was just poking a friendly stick at D’yer and am not really going to Eton. However, my family and I did consider it very, very carefully. I took the pre-entry exam two years ago, and last year my family and I visited the school to have a close look. The Eton admissions director told us that they do like (and want) American students. Eton has students from around the globe.

My mom and dad were supportive at first, but they later concluded it was too far to send me when we have reasonably good schools closer to home. I have a friend that started there this year. He boarded at Cothill before Eton and he said it prepared him very well. He said it’s been an amazing experience thus far.

Wow, that is neat that you looked into going to Eton. It’s great that your parents were willing to look abroad for a good school for you. I can relate to that.

With your wit and ability to write, I would not worry about your verbal score at all. I’m sure your essays would be fun to read. Good luck with the application process!

If you’re serious about a good boarding school in the midwest why net considere Shattuck-St. Mary? Academically and culturally it is a St. Paul’s knock off-- the schools had the same founder, and is well set up for kids with strong atheletic and academic interests. (It is also quite strong in theatre). If your parents are goosy about sending you a long way from home this might be a very good alternative. For the record. A good boarding school is a community of kids who want to challenge their potential. Not all of them are located in New England.
