Hello,

I’m currently a senior attending a Public School in California. I applied to UChicago Early Action, but was deferred to Regular Decision–it’s still my top choice, but the deferral still definitely stings.

Essays, Recommendations, and Interviews:
My greatest downfall during my college application process was the amount of time I allocated to write my essays. I brainstormed, outlined, and wrote all of my essays for Northwestern, Rice, Pomona, and two other private universities in the span of two weeks. I also wanted to apply to Stanford and Williams, but I couldn’t make the deadline. Although I wrote on matters of great personal importance, there’s no denying that I’m a bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to execute my essays to the best of my ability.

I waived my right to look at my teacher recommendations. I did, however, read my additional recommendation letter from my mentor at the NGO I’m involved in and it was extremely moving (a bit too personal to reveal on CC).

As for interviews, time was once again an issue. I wasn’t able to schedule any interviews before the deadlines. Please let me know how detrimental this would be to my application :(

A few Miscellaneous factors:
I’ve applied to each university as an Economics Major.
I have a light legacy (aunt) at Rice.

Thank you!

UChicago-reach
Northwestern-low reach
Rice-match
Pomona-match
UC Berkeley-match

Thank you! Any other opinions?

I’d say mrcyna is pretty right. I’d take Northwestern and pull it down to a high match though. GREAT stats buddy, and amazing job on the 1600/2370!

Goodluckk!

Thanks for the feedback! Could anyone clarify how much of a reach UChicago is for me?

I would say you have a pretty good chance at Uchicago. I knew someone who got in with a 2120 SAT. Your stats are impressive! Good luck!

Great chance for Berkeley. Also likely the cheapest option for you. Go Bears!

Although your stats are excellent, you really should have good essays to get into most of the schools you listed. Not having any interviews will hurt you, but not too much IF you visited each of these schools (aside from UCB) and did an info session and/or campus tour.

Assuming fairly good essays for each school (i.e. 7+ out of 10):

UChicago - Very high reach since your were already deferred. Sorry :frowning:
Northwestern - High match
Rice - High Match
Pomona - idk
UC Berkeley - Match

Increase difficulty for school X by 1 if essays(X) = [5,7) and 2 if essays(X) = [3,5). Good luck!
