Just how important is it? I’ve heard some people say it is VERY important, while I’ve heard others say that it’s there just to make sure you’re not totally slacking during senior year. Regardless, I’ve heard that as long as you are taking a rigorous curriculum for senior year, 1-2 Bs won’t really hurt you. Is this true?

If you were an admissions officer comparing two candidates, one who took rigorous classes his first semester and maintained his 4.0 whereas the other candidate took equally hard classes, but got a 3.7, which one would you admit? There is absolutely no way to know how it will affect your application without knowing the strength of the overall group of applicants.
