Midyear Report Slight Grade Drop

Hi all. For context, my transcript has been all A’s from Freshman to Junior year (with only a couple A-'s).

My first quarter grades for core classes were 3 A’s and 1 A- (the A- in AP Physics), but my second quarter grades are 1 A, 2 A-'s (in AP Spanish and English), and a B+ (AP Physics). I’ve been deferred from a lot of colleges and I’m afraid that my quarter two grades will set me back.

I didn’t have much time to study for my classes because I was also pursuing an extracurricular and got an award at the time too (1st in Massachusetts for Clarinet by MMEA All-State) as well as college apps in general. Do you think that this slight grade drop will affect my chances a lot?

Your record is your record.

Are your quarter grades even sent in or just semester?

You won an award - so include that as you update schools.

Many schools are deferring - but hopefully you have an assured and affordable school. That’s the most important.

I wouldn’t be worried about the grades you just mentioned.

Best of luck.

For my school, the midyear report has Q1 and Q2 grades, and also a final grade for any semester related classes. None of my classes except English is a semester grade. I luckily do have an assured and affordable school I got into.

Then you’re in good shape.

But those grades you listed are nothing I’d be worried about.

Best of luck.

no problem. they look good. most kids dont even attempt ap physics,

Replied to wrong post…

It is extremely unlikely that these senior year grades will make-or-break your application, even at your most reachy schools. I wouldn’t sweat it.

Those are still excellent grades. A single B+ isn’t going to change your outcome.

No, I think they look for huge changes, not a B+. I would add in the info about the new award, too!

Where have your deferrals been from?
