Miley Cyrus at the VMAs

I’m speechless. Even the folks in the audience at the VMAs were aghast (Will Smith’s family in particular ). I guess I’m officially an old fogey now but that was just wrong.

no argument here…
Told my H that if the music gig doesn’t work for her, she can always get a job as a pole dancer…

miley cyrus? Yawn.

Kids these days…

Didn’t see it live, but that photo of Will Smith’s family is priceless.,

Well when you have no talent this is what you resort to for attention.

^^^^I haven’t seen it but she surely did get attention!

Unfortunately curiosity got the better of me so I watched it…sorry I polluted my brain…

I’m re-watching Madonna’s Like a Virgin 1984 and Brittney’s I’m a Slave for u 2001

I get so concerned about these young women whose parents put them in show biz as kids. Ever since Judy garland, this never seems to turn out very well. Maybe it’s being objectified from such a formative age which leads to so much objectification of the self. So sad

I can remember a few years back…Miley did a photo shoot which was very provocative/scantily clad…made me shake my head and think UH OH!!! This is the start of a bumpy ride for her.

More like attentions whores these days…

[Miley Cyrus 2013 VMAs Performance: Will Smith, Jaden and Willow React - UsMagazine.com](Will Smith, Jaden and Willow React to Lady Gaga at VMAs, Not Miley)

Died laughing at the Will Smith family reaction. The look on their son’s face is priceless. :D

I heard about it, so I watched the segment. It was incredibly vulgar and tacky. Not that I would expect more from her. If I had been in the audience with kids (or watching on TV with kids) I would have been furious. I don’t care if I sound like a fogey.

She needs to keep her tongue in her mouth. Yuck. It really is appalling that she demeans herself this way. Sign me up on the fogey list.

Am I missing something? Is this a more deliberately provocative performance for VMAs than usual?

10 - tend to agree

I’m sure Billy Ray is shocked, too. Seriously.

I find this thread very interesting. For the record 1. I haven’t seen the video, although I get the idea of what it is and 2. I am very much against objectification of women in any way, so I am certainly not a fan.

However, what amazes (and confuses) me is why there is such a strong response to this, while on this same board the attitude towards casual sex is so tolerant. Personally, while I don’t think either is good, I think casual sex with random people involves a lot more objectification than doing an outrageous dance on stage for shock value.

Vulgar. Vulgar and pathetic and embarrassing. Certainly not “sexy.”

There should be an island where former teen stars who want to be viewed as adults should be sent until they develop better judgment. Miley and Justin Beiber should go there.

I have seen a tolerant attitude towards premarital sex between committed partners here, not casual sex with “random” people.
