military type summer camp?

My son is a sophomore in high school and is very interested in the military. He also has some discipline/respect issues and I am looking for a summer program that he would enjoy that might help him with these issues.

I have looked into NOLS and that type of thing but they are too expensive. Does anyone know of a camp with a military bent?

thanks

Several of the US Military Academies offer a ‘sample week’ for hs juniors. It might give him a taste of what his future might look like.

There’s also this:

what area of the country/state are you in?

This isn’t a summer camp, but have you looked into the cadet program (for teenagers) of the Civil Air Patrol (the US Air Force Auxiliary)?

Cadet Program:

It’s certainly something that he could do in the summer (and well beyond). It teaches discipline, physical fitness, and leadership. It’s officially connected with the US military (and a tremendous feeder for the US Air Force Academy), though it doesn’t carry any obligation to join later. It’s cheap. He could learn to fly. And he would be providing service to society through his participation - cadets assist with CAP’s emergency services missions.

Thanks very much. I will investigate these links. I am mostly interested in the east coast.

To those of us who are not “military,” Culver is a VERY military camp. And campers really enjoy it, despite wearing uniform and marching to the mess hall.

If your son is interested in attending one of the military academies after graduating from high school, you might find the above programs very useful. Check out the link.

Hi, nysmile,

I checked ‘Honor Code!’. It seems to be ‘first come, first serve’ and it’s a week-long program. There seems to be other military academy seminars that are hard to get in for high school students. Are they different programs?
I’d like to hear more about your student’s experience at the ‘Honor Code!’ program.
Thanks a lot!
