Millennium Scholar Program information

Could anyone help with some information about PSU millennium program ? My daughter is a finalist and we were wondering how the program works. Do students have more work than the normal classroom work ? Is it too overwhelming ? She was accepted in the college of engineering and applied for honors as well. Thank you !

depends on your what you mean by work. There are some MS that are in the honors college, but at least for the first two years of the program, most are not. It is a restrictive program that is great for some people, not for others. What they tell you at the interview about mandatory activities is in fact true. Do they still have the campus interview process? People who are independent, want to choose their own path and are not 100% sure graduate school is for them may not be a good match for the program. The article above somewhat underestimates the required activities (or at least what was required during the first two years of the program). It’s a great program if fits your goals and personality.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, they have the campus interview which will be end of February
We live in Florida and we are trying to understand a little more before the interview to make a decision if we should attend the interview
Could you describe some of the mandatory activities ? Do MSP have different (or more demanding) classes?

they do not have more demanding classes. In someways, the ability to maintain a high GPA is easier. they add a few classes that could boost GPAs and they provide tutoring and college preparation resources. They will tell you it is modeled off the meyerhoff program at UMBC. http://meyerhoff.umbc.edu
If they off set the costs of travel, definitely go. If you can’t, I’m sure you could speak to the coordinators of the program.

@VC2016 What did you decide? Are you going to the Millenium Scholars Interview weekend? We are also from Florida and are going with our S.
