Can anyone tell me anything about Millikin or Illinois Wesleyan? I’m looking for a quieter, more studious type campus, not a party school and I want to stay close to the Chicago area(3-4 hours). Any ideas? Would either of these fit?

Hi! I go to Millikin, I do not know much about IWU, but if you have any MU questions, go ahead and shoot them my way! :)

I go to IWU. I think there are people who party a lot here, but if it isn’t your style, there are options for you to do. Some locations are excellent for studying. The first-year dorms can get very rowdy at times, because it’s the first time many people are free from parental control, but I would say in the upperclass halls, people are more mature.

there’s two trains of thought. Millikin is in Decatur, Illinois - a very boring, depressed small town. There’s not much to do in Decatur. So the town itself is much more quiet. IWU is in Bloomington, not far from Illinois State University, a much larger public school that has a party reputation. Although I’ve never visited IWU, I’ve heard the campus is drop-dead gorgeous. But you would be more in a college town as opposed to Decatur.

However, I’ve heard it argued that in small towns where there’s not much in the way of local entertainment, the schools become party schools because there’s nothing else to do. The parties just happen to take place on campus and student’s off-campus residences. I’m sure that Millikin does try to provide some sort of on-campus activities to interest their students, though.

We know kids at both schools and each kid picked the school they’re at for specific reasons, and are happy there.
