Milwaukee School of Engineering

How is it?

is it for your sister? Does the demand originate from her? is it a school she’d be willing to consider? How are her stats (assuming it’s for her)?
Or are you asking in terms of how white or how conservative (or not) it is?

Yes, it is for my sister and the demand does originate from her. She wants to visit last time I heard. I don’t care how the political spectrum lays out: is it a good school?

21 composite ACT and 3.7 GPA

Yes, it’s very good. Has she been accepted? An ACT 21 is very low for that school.

The middle quartiles are 25-30. So she’d be at the very bottom.

Will she be an eng’g student? How is she at math? I don’t think she’d survive.

Why does she want to go there?

She’s a junior so she hasn’t applied to any schools yet. She will retake the ACT. I don’t know what she wants to study. I think she just wants to go to a brewery and get rootbeer.

She would need to considerably up her game wrt to ACT and math courses. 3.7 would be decent but a 21 won’t suffice (she really needs a 26, with 29-30 math). Had she studied before her 21 (based on what you said earlier, she might have gone “cold”.?)
Milwaukee School of Engineering indicates that test scores are “very important”, so she will need to increase that score considerably for that school at least - many schools consider test scores important but not “very important”. She may want to work with number2.com, an online program that’s free and targets weaker zones.
Right now, 3.7 is a GPA more than half admitted students have, and to have a shot, 24 is the score 85% have.
Even though tech schools will make allowances for girls, they will not accept someone likely to flunk out so she needs to evaluate her skills carefully - do you know what her math score, did she get 26-27 in math and 17-18 in Reading and English? Or did she score 20-21 across the board?
Tech schools have few non-tech majors and all majors are expected to handle Calculus, Physics, etc., plus English Composition (passing English composition and some humanities/social science classes is a requirement for the degree at all ABET accredited schools).
Do you know what math and science classes she’s been taking or is likely to take up to Senior Year?
She seems consistent in her wish to study the sciences, but if her lack of strong background might be a problem, it may be better if she attended a school with more offerings in case she needs to transfer out of her desired major.

I think she got a 24 in Math, but she’s been getting upper-twenties with the practice tests she’s taken. She’s in pre-calc right now and she’s also in honors physics. She will take AP calc and AP physics next year.

Ok, so she’s doing what she needs to in order to be competitive for these schools. Good.
24 in math isn’t really that good but since she’s prepping she should indeed be able to improve. :)
