Minimum ACT/SAT score?

Hello CC.

I have a friend. He really wants to get into Cornell.
His SAT is 1700.

What score on the Upcoming SAT/ACT should he aim for to have a chance at Cornell.

His gpa is average, at about 3.7
He takes a few AP courses.
He is on the speech team, and the science olympiad team.

Upon that, he also volunteers for a professor from cornell, who is willing to write a recommendation letter for him.

So, is there a minimum SAT/ACT score Cornell needs to even consider an application?
I’m asking this because I myself am trying to help him get in, as its his dream.

Aim for 2150+ SAT or 32+ ACT. Of course, scores are only a fraction of the application. Research the school and programs to see if it’s a good fit and be able to articulate and demonstrate why.

Below 1900 is out of the question.

2000 may work at CALS but not at A&S .

While there is no “minimum” score, chances are slim if score isn’t over 2000. In addition “taking a few” AP classes is not going to be looked upon favorably if the high school offers many.

It’s okay. I got a 1800 and am going to attend this fall and major in AEM at CALS. So I’ll give you a run down of my own stats:

SAT: 1800 (3rd time)

SAT II: None

Rank: 16/694 (Top 3%)

GPA: 3.92 UW; 4.62 Weighted

AP Exams: WHAP (3), APUSH (3), Psych (2), Cancelled Lang

Senior courseload: AP Cal AB, AP Stats, AP Lit, AP US Gov, APES, PAP Computer Science, College Financial Acct, College Microeconomics, College English 1301

Volunteer Experience (at the time of application): Over 400 hrs. with various organizations not to mention being a part of a mentor program at elementary and being a geometry & chemistry tutor during high school

Leadership Positions: Pres/Founder of African club; VP of FBLA; Officer of NTHS, VP of LULAC, Member of BPA, NHS, StuCo

Work experience: Part time Sales associate at Famous Footwear (2 years)

Also had a great relationship with counselors and teachers alike so they wrote amazing recommendation letters; even had a UPenn professor write me a rec that did mission work with me for 2 summers.
CommApp essay was very personal and about how essentially no one in my community seems to go for distinguished schools (i.e. Ivy’s, Stanford, or Duke) but instead settle for St. schools
Supp essay was a personal story about basically a lifelong, transformed desire to study economics & business

Honestly, if anything, I’d say it were the recs, essays, and extracirriculars that got me into the school. I believe if you show a school how passionate you are for your studies and how you are going to utilize the education you’ll get from there, then they will be more than happy to welcome you to their campus. So don’t give up and keep pushing through, kid. Hope to see you in Ithaca.

@smartykid101 hey, not to be rude, but how the hell…aem only takes like 100 kids and you got in with a 1800 sat? are you under represented minority or athlete?

Thanks for posting your stats tho, i appreciate it.

Okay i looked at your other thread and I see that you’re African American. I think its important to note SAT minimum is dependent on your race
