Minimum GPA for BC and Colgate Athletes.

I have been researching different schools minimum GPA and I can not seem to find one for BC or Colgate. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Have you found info for minimum SAT/ACT scores for athletes at Colgate (or other LACs)?
As for GPA, 3 to 3.5 is expected.

Thanks for the information, I have not researched the SAT score because my PSATs came in over the average for acceptance and I just took the old SAT and I felt I did even better on the SAT than PSAT, we will see what the score says. Its my GPA I am concerned about…I meet the 3.0 and striving for the 3.5.

Not sure what sport you play, but I’ll make an analogy that I think you’ll understand from baseball. The necessary GPA required for admission depends on the velocity of your fastball. In other words, the more desirable a recruit you are, the more willing they are to compromise. Obviously there is a floor they won’t go below, but if you are above a 3.0, then I’m sure you’re above the floor. The real question you need an answer to is - how prized a recruit are you.

Understand the analogy completely and since I am not a football, basketball or hockey player. So my thinking was…those standards might be different than let’s say a non revenue producing sport.

The minimum for BC is going to be the NCAA requirements. Whether you get in with the minimum will depend on your sport, your skill, and how much the coach wants you.

FWIW, in the sport of track and field, Colgate sent a form email to my son at one point that stated “we look for grade point averages over 3.7 with honors and AP classes and test scores over 30 on the ACT or over 680 on each Sat test.”

@fairytroll, some coaches may tell you, “i can’t really get anyone with a GPA below x or SAT below y”, but in the world of college athletic recruiting, especially at the D1 level, there are very few absolutes and hard lines with the exception of the Ivy AI floor and the NCAA min.

Ask the coach or an assistant to verify. Top LACs want to see a 32 ACT; and a player who can contribute significantly as freshman can go as low as 28.

I think @varska summed it up perfectly.

Good one (#3) @nhparent9

Another way to say the same thing is “keep your ERA below your GPA”

I can confirm from personal experience that the above is good/accurate advice.

Coaches, including at the Ivies, will give rough numbers for what they are looking for (like “30 ACT and 3.7”), but I can tell you that you that for most sports you can be SIGNIFICANTLY lower than the rough numbers they throw out there. If you are an athlete they really want.

True, there is the Ivy AI floor of 170, but that’s a very low floor (although for most sports, you’re not going to get in with a 170, no matter how good you are. 170 is for the rare high D1 level quarterback or point guard who wants to play in the Ivy League).

So doing the research is good, but as long as you have decent numbers, don’t rule out contacting coaches at any school you are interested in.
