Minimum GPA/SAT for chance at UF admission?

Now that the class of 2010 has started UF, I was wondering what everyone would consider the minimum weighted GPA and SAT for admission to UF. I am not talking about recruited athletes or for URM’s. Sorry, but the parameters are different for them. Thinking back to everyone that you know that applied to UF this past year, what was basically the cut off for admisssions. I do not really trust the website’s profiling. If you are a white, male student from a middle/upper middle class home with average EC’s, what would your GPA and SAT need to be to have a decent chance at admission to UF for summer B? Please don’t guess. Tell us who you know (that is not a EC superstar, athlete or URM) that got into UF for summer B and what their SAT/GPA’s were. I will start…to my knowledge, no one from my daughter’s high school with less than a 1850 SAT/GPA 3.8 got in.

Here’s the best information I can give you. I’m currently a high school senior and I’m applying early decision in about 2 weeks. The application process is SPLIT IN HALF. That’s right, 2 different groups of reviewers read each application. I’ll explain the groups:

1) This group receives your academics. From your grades to SAT’s and scholar-related awards. They work on a point system, points are assigned for different things such as GPA, what classes taken, what school you’re from (It IS considered), how many AP’s, etc. The total points is recorded. They DO NOT SEE YOUR EXTRA CURRICULAR.

2) This group receives ONLY your hollistic information. They DO NOT see your grades, SAT scores, etc. They review what you have and give you points for that. It is just as important is the first group.

In the end, both scores are added and considered for admission. I May be wrong in some of this information, but these are words from the mouth of an admission officers at the UF campus tour at 2pm EST on August 16th 2006. My tour guide’s name was Evin but I forget the name of the cheery fellow who asnwered questions and explaiend the process.

I’ll explain myself as an example. I have a 3.7 GPA up to junior year in a private school. I’ll be finishing high school with 5 AP’s (scores never under a 4), honors, and an SAT score of a little above a 2100 (near 2200). My strongest point, however, is my EC. I founded a non-profit organization when I was 16. I’ll gladly go into detail if you have a quesiton about that. Even though I have all of this going for me (including other EC, I’m Brazilian, etc) I’m STILL applying early decision. There is NO GUARANTEE.

So to answer your question, there is no cutoff. If you give me your daughter’s profile I’ll be glad to give you a fair assessment. Keep in mind it is only my opinion based in about 2 years of UF research, a private school college counselor meeting often, and what I’ve learned from UF students and alumni.

If you’re looking for a loose guideline. a RECOMMENDED GPA is around a 3.8 with at least a 1290 SAT (around 1800-1900). I know students who applied with a 3.8 and a 2200 SAT and got deffered because of no EC. Feel free to PM me with questions

Our son just started UF today… he applied ED for fall… he is a white male middle upper class… he was in IB, had several AP’s, GPA weighted was a 4.3 SAT was 1350 for math and verbal… 29 ACT. His EC’s weren’t the best I would say average, but he had great recommendations… started his own computer business, (his major is electrical/computer hardware Engineering)…and the majority of his family are UF legacies.

CShore- no offense but your son is not what I am refering to. Your son is in the middle to top of the admits. The question is what is the MINIMUM that average people got into UF with. A GPA of 4.3 is NOT a minimum stat. Most people with minimum stats apply for summer B…it gives them a bit of a step up. I am not refering to kids who are legacies, URM’s, IB kids or atheletes. I want to know if any white upper middle class children with a 3.7 and a 1200 to 1250 SAT got in this past year.

I already explained to you that its beyond such circumstances. In short, yes, i have a friend with a 3.5 that was just accepted. He is nothing extraordinary, regular kid white american. But its nost just like that, he had good extra curricular.

I’m going to answer your question the way your asking it. No, someone with just a 3.7 and that SAT score will not be admitted. Now, if he/she has extra curricular that is shining then they have a chance. But just so your soul is rest to peace, JUST A 3.7 and that SAT will NOT be admitted

Seiclan…I thought you wanted to know if someone who didn’t have outstanding EC’s was admitted, I am sorrry I misunderstood!!
I do know of some IB kids in my sons class who did not get admitted and in the past just being in IB was almost a given to getting into U.F. I also know of several kids who were always in gifted programs and went to the mainsteam school and took Honors classes and did very well that didn’t get in and are now attending Santa Fe CC. The schools that I am referring to ARE in Gainesville, and I am wondering if they are cutting back on the local kids that they admitted this year. My son seems to think so. Does anyone know for sure???

Upper-middle class white female with a few APs, GPA around 3.9 unweighted, and SATs of 1250 (unsure of writing score). Strong ECs but nothing extraordinary. Admitted to Summer B.

Another upper-middle class white female, IB, 3.7 GPA unweighted, 1320 SATs. Strong ECs but nothing extraordinary. Admitted to Fall.

I noticed the date on these post is 2006, what about the stats for 2009 or the current class. I am in IB with the above criteria yet I am only 20% sure that I will get in. It is MUCH harder as of 2009 with down sizing and budget cuts.

It’s not politically correct to say, but before the question can be answered, the applicant’s race must be facoored in:
