Minor in a Fashion related course?

I’m an international student from the Philippines. My parents own a garments manufacturing company here. I’ll be taking over the business when I’m older so I want to take a fashion related course. The problem is that there aren’t any good schools here that offer this course. I’ll be taking management honors for a year here since it is too late for me to apply. However, I will want to apply again as a freshman if ever I do study abroad.

I don’t want Fashion to be my only concentration though so I’m thinking of either taking fashion merchandising or design as a minor with business management or marketing as my major or having a double major. I don’t want to go to an art school but I don’t mind taking a sem or a year at an art school. Are there any schools that have a program similar to what FIT has where you study there for a year? I’m also looking for schools that give scholarships to internationals.

My SAT scores are 600CR, 760M, 630W (1990 total)

Here are the schools that I’m considering:
Cornell (reach)
WUSTL (reach)
Baylor
Syracuse
Purdue (1 year at FIT)
UW-Madison (1 year at FIT)
Cal Poly Pomona (minor in Fashion Merchandising)

BB4, Florida State and Marist have Fashion Merchandising. Marist is about an hour plus from NYC. They both might be worth checking into.

Having been a student at an art school studying fashion design. I would recommend not sacrificing an education just to take some fashion courses. I say take those fashion courses after you have graduated with an education in something else.

I know many art schools offer summer programs, or in general night courses that will give you the education you need. Maybe attend a school in a major city, ie NYC, and during your summer breaks take classes at FIT or at a local community college.

Thanks! I will look into that. I do want to go back home during my summer breaks. May I know what school you attended?

What about a two year art school like FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) in Cali.

i use to attend Otis College of Art & Design. they also have evening/weekend programs.
attending a school like ucla oxy usc or any of the la area colleges, and taking a class at otis is feasible

I’m gonna resurrect this thread.

UW just got a pile of $$$ to strengthen the retailing area…
