Minor or take more classes will raise our COA?

Does minoring or taking some extra classes cost more and make your COA higher?

Depends on the school. Some schools will charge per credit hour, so yes, more classes will cost more (taking 18 hrs would be more expensive than 15 hrs). Some schools will charge per semester (a flat fee for up to xx hours of classes), in which case no, the additional classes wouldn’t cost more. Of course, if the minor means an extra semester of classes, that would cost more.

So like if we got a full ride let’s just say, does minoring or taking extra classes give us more FA to cover those extra classes? Or does it depends on the school?

It’ll depend on the school and should be available on the scholarship’s website. The full-ride I received at a school that charged per tuition hour said that they would pay up to 21 hours, which is the limit anyways. I would think that most full-rides would allow you to adjust course loads, but again, there is really no blanket statement to be made.

You have to look closely. Some scholarships limit students to 15 or 16 credits per semester. Other ones are more lenient.

You have to look at the details of your particular aid. If it’s not clear, than call your school and ask…or ask by email so that you have a WRITTEN response (and keep that response for a record!)
