<p>this is sort of a amateur question but do these colleges have to directly persuade a college to accept you or more so just answer the question and do it in a fashion that a college sees your persona?</p>

<p>for example UMICH’s essay question is</p>

<p>Discuss an issue of local concern. Why is this
issue important to you? How do you think it
should be addressed? </p>

<p>Am i supposed to directly answer the question or also supposed to persuade them to give me admission.</p>

<p>You aren’t convincing the college to accept you, per se, but in an essay like this, you want to come off as concerned, insighful, and analytical in terms of the issue of choice. In other words, you ARE convincing them by showcasing some good characteristics, but you aren’t blatantly mentioning the college or your desire to go there.</p>
