in my Cornell supplement essay, I accidentally typed “General Assemble” instead of “General Assembly”. is this going to be a major problem and how should I address it if at all?

There isn’t really anything you can do about it now…

ah this is starting to stress me out, how significant of an impact do you think it will make on my chances?

Can’t really say. Honestly, if your essay and stats are good, they won’t reject you because you made a typo like that. So if you’re a good enough candidate anyway, then you’ll probably be accepted regardless of that kind of typo.

im pretty sure that after they read that, they’re going to shred your app… sucks man…

hate to turn this into a chance thread but…

SAT: 2330 (CR-800, Math-780, W-750)
SAT II: US HIstory-780, Literature-760, Spanish with listening-770
ACT:35
GPA: weighted-4.4 unweighted- I don’t really know, but my grades are mostly a’s and a+'s with a few a-'s sprinkled in and one B+ first marking period in AP Physics

Extracurriculars/summer activities: Marching Band(drum major), Model UN(head delegate, won outstanding delegate at last year’s Cornell MUN conference), Debate(several speaking and one team award), Mock Trial(attorney, co-president), Jazz ensemble, stage crew, varsity fencing, Boy Scouts(assistant senior patrol leader, Eagle Scout), national honor society-tutoring freshman physics as a volunteer, Johns Hopkins center for talented youth, volunteered for a summer at UN headquarters, ummmm yeah i think that’s it

I thought my essays were pretty good. one was about my thoughts as I was conducting the marching band at our last competition, and I kinda related the music to the way that the band developed under my leadership, the other was about how my interests developed and how i would take advantage of the CAS’s resources. this is the one where i made the typo

teacher recs: i don’t know i haven’t seen them, but I think they’re pretty good. I know at least one of them is probably really good.

Awards: National merit semi-finalist, Bloustein Scholar (it’s an NJ thing),

hmmm what else… oh right, classes

APs: US history-5 Macroeconomics-5

I’m taking AP European History, AP Physics, AP Calculus AB, AP SPanish, and AP Englsih this year. The rest of my classes are pretty much all honors, except for like gym and band and stuff like that.

You have a very good chance. Stay optimistic! (even if acceptd doesn’t want you to)

maybe i’m just a little on edge since i was deferred from yale. I keep nitpicking every little aspect of my application

OMG dude. I’m so sorry man…

Ok on my Common App essay I typed “Sun Scream” instead of “Sun Screen” and I didn’t get rejected (I got deferred), and the reason for deferral wasn’t even about spelling. LOL

Calm down… Don’t you think it’s kind of idiotic to reject a student just because of one spelling error (that gives the admission officers a huge laugh probably)…

And by the way I was in ESL two years ago so… the essay definitely sounded genuine. wink

General Assemble? Nah, that doesn’t sound so bad… it’s like you’re the leader of some military gathering, and you’re commanding them to rally together with you to fight the forces of evil with your authoritative command: "Generals… ASSEMBLE!!! I think admissions staff would find that pretty rad!!!

Don’t worry about it.

I remember being paranoid like you last year. For some reason, my essay didn’t have indents before each paragraph when I submitted it, and I was so scared. Don’t worry, they didn’t care at all.

yeah i was pretty nit-picky before i submitted, but now that i have i refuse to look at my essays… out of my hands so I don’t even want to know!

Same here shalala, I don’t even want to THINK about my apps anymore… I submitted the last one (Amherst) yesterday, and I’m just happy to have them over with.
Now let’s just hope I get accepted somewhere halfway decent.

Don’t worry about it, my son had an error on his and he was accepted. (even thought he read it multiple times, of course it seems you always notice it after you hit submit) Your body of work should count more.

lol its not a big deal. It won’t affect your admissions.

“He also showed my that America is not”
-part of the last sentence of my essay, and I got in ED!
