I’m very interested in pursuing a minor while I’m at USC but since I’m majoring in Film Production the process is a bit more complicated. As I was looking at a lot of the minors I was interested in, most of them said you needed 48 credits in order to begin classes in them.

I will be graduating high school with 32 credits I can transfer into USC (the limit). If I do 16 credits my first semester it would add up to 48. Could I begin working on a minor my second semester at USC? Getting started early would help my chances of actually completing it. Since I am entering with AP Chemistry and AP French I will be excempt from my GE Foreign Language credit and my GE Science. This would free up two slots I can start filling with classes from my minor. Would this work out at all?

You have to take the foreign language placement test to see if you have any more foreign language to take at USC. Unless it is different for film, my son (Viterbi) had to take a foreign language placement exam at USC. I thought the minors required a lot of classes.
You should speak to an advisor to see if you can cram everything in 4 years.

Even if I had to take a placement test I’m very proficient in French and fluent in Spanish (native language) so it wouldn’t be a problem. The minor I want to do (Entrepreneurship) is only 4 classes so if I can get at least one or two out of the way in my first three semesters it would make it very doable in four years.

Sounds like you’ll be fine starting minor classes your second semester, if you want.

Just be aware that production is a fairly demanding major, so you really should make sure that you schedule your major courses first (and then schedule minor courses, if they fit)

s only had 20 credits (IB) transferred from high school and he is able to fit a minor into his program of film production so I’m sure you’ll not have any problem with 32 credits. You’ll be talking to an adviser when you get there who will help you work things out, so don’t worry. S was told if he wasn’t going to minor that he’d be able to graduate early.
