Does being Hispanic raise my chances of getting into schools like USC or UCSB. I hope to be the first from both sides of the family. I have a 4.0 average(never had a B), in five clubs and ranked first in my class. I am in the top nineth percentile. I took my sat for the first time and got a 1340. Pretty bad i know. If i dont get a higher score will i not get accepted because of this?

Yes. Being hispanic, and being first generation, are extreme boosts to your chances. With a 4.0 and ranked #1, you are practically guaranteed admission. Is that 1340 just math+CR or is it total (Math + reading + writing)?

yes with all three scores. I omitted alot of questions and it ruined my score.

that could definitely hurt you, but i’m assuming you’re a junior, so don’t worry- you have plenty of time to improve :)

“I have a 4.0 average(never had a B), in five clubs and ranked first in my class. I am in the top nineth percentile”.

This seems confusing. How can you be ranked first, but only in the 9th percentile? Also, don’t be fooled. No one is “practically guaranteed admission” to USC. But, if you qualify for ELC (top 4%), you may be guaranteed at UCSB.

I fail to understand how you have a 4.0 and a 1340/2400.

yea i know. I underestimated my time. I went into the test not knowing what to expect. Im going to take it agian. Im going to take all AP classes senior year to try to make up for it just in case my score does not improve. My counselor said i was at worst at Nineth percenticle.

Work on your SAT and keep doing well at school.

This is why people take practice tests - so they don’t walk into a test not knowing what to expect. You don’t go into tests unprepared at school (if you want an A). Why would you do it for something as important as the SAT? Do not take this test again without having spent time practicing. Buy the official guide with old tests in it and do every single one of them.

If you get your score up, you have a shot at any school in the country.
