Miserable at my school... want to transfer

I'm at a Big 10 school and it just isn't for me. Ideally, I would like to transfer to University of Miami, I fell in live with the atmosphere where everyone was so happy. Unfortunately, it is 15k more a year. Is there anyway for me to claim as an independent from my family and be able to get some financial aid and loans?

I’m at UM and I hate it so much. But for me it’s more because I’m used to living in a big, urban city (I’m from Dubai) and I’m living at home, so maybe it’s not just the school.

Just be sure this is where you wanna be. If you’re coming from a top 10, you’ll get good financial aid I’d imagine.

I’m looking to transfer to NYU, by the way.

Go to the FA & Scholarships forum, your question is asked frequently there. Use the Search function for ‘Independent’ and you will get several hits, for instance:

To the second post, Big 10 is an athletic conference, not the top 10 schools.
