Mismatch- what College info has your kid recieved that is the LEAST match

My D got this wonderful packet of info from the Indiana School of Technology thanking her for her interest

My D runs from math and science so she immediately relugated this one two the recycle pile

My younger d is bemused by the Marine and Coast Guard stuff she gets, being all of 15 and all

My d. had a letter from the Air Force suggesting that she had all the qualifications to train to pilot fighter jets based on her ACT score.

That one went straight to the trash. Aside from my daughter’s decided lack of interest in such a career, I figure the air force would have done better if they had asked for the records from my daughter’s optometrist as well as the ACT scores.

The all-women’s colleges–DD just laughs and they go right in the recycling bin!

The all-women’s colleges. SON just laughed (although he was QUITE interested) and tossed the stuff. He has a gender-neutral first name…

I’d be thrilled if my son lingered over any of the stuff long enough to realize it was a major mismatch…

My son College Class of 2007 is still receiving SAT Prep course solicitations! His sister HS Class of 2007 is getting college loan solicitations. No their first names are not similar.

Today an offer came from the SEA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION, a Sea Semester at WoodsHole MA.

Any mail piece that contains the phrase " . . . the foremost Catholic institution of higher learning on Long Island . . ." No, I think not.

My daughter’s favorite, because it hit her just right, was a glossy UConn foldout piece that had very well-written text trumpeting the university’s commitment to scholarly inquiry and academic excellence, illustrated with a huuuge photograph of a kid dressed in the Huskie mascot costume. She thought nothing communicated scholarship and academic excellence like a giant cartoon dog.

I have gotten more mail from Evanston college than I know what to do with.

With that being said, there is no way I’d ever go to NAVY!

My S who was very certain that he would be an engineering student was on the Grinnell list. He could have cared less but I loved the material! Fun, quirky newsletters.

Weenie, I feel your pain…DD won’t even look at anything that comes in them mail right now…after one long trip to Ohio and many other short trips to other schools, she’s taking a break from thinking about college to enjoy the rest of the summer…

Air Force Academy. I’m legally blind without contacts and hate flying (my ears are super sensitive to pressure changes… they pop in the elevator sometimes!).

Not a college solicitation, but a big glossy invitation with the presidential seal and signature (probably a stamp, but it looked good), to some Presidential Leadership Conference. Also had a big smiling President Bush, inviting my son by name, printed right on the invitation.

We didn’t pitch it, but kept it for posterity.

Funny about the Bush invite… that would have most of my family heaving…

My D was quite interested in University of Oregon until they sent a glossy brochure with a comment that many of their students are vegetarians. My picky eater D likes about 6 things, most of them beef-related. And the best time of her life was eating out in Buenos Aires where she lived for 6 months: all meat, all the time. The vegetarian comment cost UO an application.

Literature tossed immediately by my daughter. University of Montana, why study hard get good test scores and grades then freeze your a** off at college?

katilamom good point. Your daughter would have her own protestors on campus. There are some pretty good places to get beef in Eugene however.

The funny ones this year are the 3-4 a DAY that are coming–to my dd who is already a plebe at the Naval Academy. Somehow they all decided that she’s a senior again??? And for those that dis the Navy–she’s quite happy there, thank you.

Heartcross - glad your D is enjoying Annapolis! My DH would have loved to go there way back when, but I gotta laugh when my D gets solicitations from them…certainly not for her, but from what I understand its academics are top-notch on any level

I also have to laugh at the materials we get from somewhere in Switzerland…can’t even remember the name.

I (a molecular biology student) received a letter from Georgetown’s comparative lit department saying that the Office of Admissions had informed them of my “strong interest in comparative literature.” I’ve thrown out most of my college info since then, but I held onto that letter!
