Not a US city (and also doesn’t exist anymore but…) my friend is writing his dissertation on Bagdad, Mexico.

And yes, Bagdad is named after Baghdad, Iraq.

It wouldn’t bother me so much if they weren’t not only mismatched, but also mispronounced.

There’s a town I know that has “Versailles” in its name – not ver-sigh, but ver-sales.

@bodangles I remember a few years ago there was a contestant on Jeopardy from Versailles, IN. When Alex pronounced it Ver-sigh she corrected him and told him it was Ver-sales.

My sister worked for company with a mine in Bagdad, Mx. When it was announced that 'we were bombing Bagdad, panic ensued at the office.

We have a Medina here in WA as well. Very chichi town where they take a photo of every license plate entering the town and where the cop has nothing better to do than sit in his car and issue speeding tickets to Amazon delivery dudes. :slight_smile:
