As of late, my parents have become extremely ill. My dad has cardiovascular issues and had an angioplasty performed eight months ago. He does not have US health coverage, so he has to travel to Brazil every 3-4 months to reevaluate his health. He paid out of pocket here in the US to avoid this trip, but it was discovered that one of the four stents implanted into his veins was “rejected” by the vein and the vein is not in feeble condition. He announced three weeks ago that he must travel back to Brazil to solve this issue, one solution being open heart surgery.
My mom was also hospitalized for three consecutive months due to liver failure. She was extremely ill for about 2 months prior to finally checking into the hospital. I don’t want to spare you the gross details, but the signs she exhibited indicated some very serious illness. She could barely walk and had a tremendous amount of accumulated fluid in her abdomen due to complications stemming from the liver failure.]
In addition, I have an anxiety disorder and ADHD (I have medical documentation. All of this has made me considerably anxious and I had three panic attacks so far, and I never had one previously in my lifetime. Also, I did not mention that I am a rising junior and have an intense course load and I am ahead in my course progression. I am even set to enroll as a non-matriculated student at a Philly university (I attend a medium-sized NJ state university) to take a single math course to possibly triple major. I am double majoring in finance and economics and minoring in mathematics.
The universities that I did not satisfy the deadlines for are quite stringent and are: Columbia, UChicago, Dartmouth, and UVA. I am about to have a nervous breakdown and was too anxious to even email them prior to or on the day after the deadline (yesterday). I have created a detailed email explaining my situation, so should I email them ASAP or wait until early Monday morning? Do you think they will accept late applications? I can submit all materials upon approval from the universities and my recommenders even have their letters written and submitted.
Also, I meet with my advisor on Monday to talk about fee waivers. How exactly do they work because nobody here seems to know? Is there a form that must be sent or is everything done digitally by the counselor on the application? I receive Medicaid, which is a public service. That is the only criterion I meet. So, can someone further explain this and possibly address some of my concerns? Thank you.
