Missing columns on the Rating table on the offline recommendation form

I am opening a new thread so that this problem can be highlighted.

Did anyone notice that the offline form is missing two columns on the Rating Table of the 2nd page on the offline recommendation form. It has no columns of “Outstanding (top 5%)” and “One of the top few encountered in my career”. There is no right margin on the table and it just runs across the page.

Thanks

What pdf program are you using to view/print the file? Try a different one.

I have tried both Acrobat Reader on Windows and Preview on Mac. Both shows the same problem.

Here is a screen capture of the form. There is no column of “Outstanding (top 5%)” and “One of the top few encountered in my career”

Based on your screen shot you are viewing at over 100% and the right side of the page isn’t showing in the viewer. Could it be that simple? Have you printed it? Adjusted your print settings to fit to the page?

Even I put it under 100%, I still have the same problem.

Are there other teachers in school with you who have been through the process this year whom you could ask?

I will look around and ask.

Maybe your settings are on landscape instead of portrait?

No, I tried different orientation and still have the same problem.

It makes me wonder why some student’s forms have all the columns and some don’t.

Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and apply.

If we know why, we may be able to work around it.

You could always neatly draw in your own columns :)

Or, submit online instead of battling the preview/print problem.

The teacher does not want/bother to do that.

Interesting, I downloaded that form last week and everything was fine. I just looked at the saved file and it is perfect. After reading this thread, I logged back into the Common App and opened the form and it was missing the two columns on the far right as you described. I then downloaded it using a new file name, and when I opened up the newly saved form it was still missing those two columns. Nothing changed on my computer, so I have to think that somehow the file was modified or corrupted on the Common App end.

MiddKid86,

Thank you for your comments which is very helpful.

I downloaded the form during the weekend and noticed that the last column was for the “top 10%”. A very nice person on this board sent me a form with all the columns. I compared them and found the following words changes:

Academic Achievement
Intellectual Promise
Quality of Writing (Writing)
Creative Thought (Creativity)
Productive Discussion (Class Discussion)
Faculty Respect
Disciplined Habits (Work Habits)
Maturity
Motivation
Leadership
Integrity
Reaction to Setbacks (Resilience)
Concern for Others (Collaborative)
Self-confidence
Initiative
OVERALL

I sure hope that it will be fixed soon.

Sure enough, they changed the form in the past week or so, and apparently messed up the formatting for that table (unless they meant to dispense with the top two categories).

Silly Common App people. And what does “Disciplined Habits” mean?

People with the this form will have no way to select the top 2 choices. It could hurt an applicant.
