How serious is it to miss deadlines?

I postmarked an application today, that I found out is supposed to be IN THE OFFICE today. (Fine print)

I don’t mean this case specifically. But let’s say you turn in an application 2 weeks past the due date. how would it be treated? Would they even know?

Anyone?

While I am not really sure, after reading the few threads on missed deadlines, the majority say that it is not that big of a deal. Offices are filled with mail and applications that they probably don’t have time to be looking at postmark dates. However, some schools may differ. My counselor was an alumnus from Pomona and said that the dean of admissions is nitpicky about stuff like that.
